| dab | posted 3-Jun-2009 8:19am I would neither mow the lawn nor arrest someone who was. If I were the DA, I'd consider charges against the police officers for assault and false imprisonment. |
| LJD | posted 3-Jun-2009 9:02am Well, I'm glad to see an American try to help the city, since the city wasn't able to do it. It will come to Americans having to do some city work, that taxpayers can't afford to do anymore. I'd do it. I suspect years ago, groups of people gathered to clean a park, put out a fire, gathered to make a city safer. The problem is people have become dependent on government too much. |
| Enheduanna | posted 3-Jun-2009 11:29am No, I would go to city hall and find out about organizing volunteers to take care of the park. Sounds like more than mowing was needed anyway. |
| Galomorro | posted 3-Jun-2009 11:42am No but the sentence for this guy was too harsh. He should have been praised. I think it's great when private citizens pick up trash in the parks, plant gardens on unused public land, etc. It's a way for people to take care of the community, like volunteers in the parks. Especially now with budget cuts to recreational areas. Someone should recruit him to be a volunteer in one of their parks. |
| LindaH | posted 3-Jun-2009 10:32pm I might do something similar. I see nothing wrong with people taking it upon themselves to fix things that aren't being fixed. I might paint over graffiti. |
| Cain | posted 4-Jun-2009 5:51pm I wouldn't do this myself, but I'm glad that there are people who do! |
| cloudhugger | posted 5-Jun-2009 2:10am No, I know better than to do something like that.
The park in my town is free and open to all. On Sundays it is so full of families from the Chicago area that no one from town can get in. So there were murmers of charging all non-residents fee's on weekends to help defray the cost ofcleaning up after all the picnics and fishing debris is left behind. Strangers do not really seem to think about cleaning up after themselves as much as someone who lives there. So the situation had been heating up and starting to boil and the town was doing nothing about it. So this guy decided to take it upon himself to start collecting money from non residents going into the park. He was going to gie the money to the park district, I know he was, but it ended up being pretty damn funny when he got busted. I don't know any more details, but foreigners from up north are still trashing the park on wekends. |
| efh47 | posted 5-Jun-2009 11:36am I wouldn't have the gumption to do it personally. But somebody had to do it, paid or not. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 5-Jun-2009 1:44pm No i would not do this |

| they | posted 6-Jun-2009 2:36pm I wouldn't, but only because I'm lazy.
I want to. This story burns me up. If city workers were mowing it, they would run over trash and shred it also. |
| ihatespiders | posted 6-Jun-2009 11:53pm Hey, dont they arrest people for not mowing their yards? Whats wrong with mowing a park because the city cant afford to? You would think the city would be grateful. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 7-Jun-2009 9:42am Why would I do something like that? I say let the grass grow and let things return back to the wild... |
| risingroad | posted 7-Jun-2009 11:22pm Our county in the 90s shut down our recycle center (they didn't think it was important) after I had saved up and washed and flattened hundreds of cat and dog food cans. I took those cans, put them in a big plastic garbage bag, went down to the county commissioners offices, opened the door, walked to the center of the tiled area, and dropped that bag of cans in the middle of the floor with a note saying "DO NOT ignore this problem. Deal with it!". Then left. When I dropped them it sounded like several mayonaise jars breaking, though they were just cans. The commissioners came running out. We now have one of the best recycling centers in Oregon.
