Would you do something like this?

I found this on the web and wondered if you would do the same thing if put in the situation. The text is as follows.

Ohio Man Arrested For Mowing Unkempt Grass At Park

An Ohio man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at a public park said he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he took control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky's Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.

Police said they arrested 48-year-old Hamilton after he refused to stop mowing and charged him with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

City Manager Matt Kline called the arrest unfortunate and said he understands Hamilton's frustration. Kline said budget cuts have left Sandusky understaffed for seasonal maintenance work.

I would neither mow the lawn nor arrest someone who was. If I were the DA, I'd consider charges against the police officers for assault and false imprisonment.

Well, I'm glad to see an American try to help the city, since the city wasn't able to do it. It will come to Americans having to do some city work, that taxpayers can't afford to do anymore. I'd do it. I suspect years ago, groups of people gathered to clean a park, put out a fire, gathered to make a city safer. The problem is people have become dependent on government too much.

No, I would go to city hall and find out about organizing volunteers to take care of the park. Sounds like more than mowing was needed anyway.

No but the sentence for this guy was too harsh. He should have been praised. I think it's great when private citizens pick up trash in the parks, plant gardens on unused public land, etc. It's a way for people to take care of the community, like volunteers in the parks. Especially now with budget cuts to recreational areas. Someone should recruit him to be a volunteer in one of their parks.

I might do something similar. I see nothing wrong with people taking it upon themselves to fix things that aren't being fixed. I might paint over graffiti.

I wouldn't do this myself, but I'm glad that there are people who do!

No, I know better than to do something like that.
The park in my town is free and open to all. On Sundays it is so full of families from the Chicago area that no one from town can get in. So there were murmers of charging all non-residents fee's on weekends to help defray the cost ofcleaning up after all the picnics and fishing debris is left behind. Strangers do not really seem to think about cleaning up after themselves as much as someone who lives there. So the situation had been heating up and starting to boil and the town was doing nothing about it. So this guy decided to take it upon himself to start collecting money from non residents going into the park. He was going to gie the money to the park district, I know he was, but it ended up being pretty damn funny when he got busted. I don't know any more details, but foreigners from up north are still trashing the park on wekends.

I wouldn't have the gumption to do it personally. But somebody had to do it, paid or not.

I wouldn't, but only because I'm lazy.

I want to.

This story burns me up. If city workers were mowing it, they would run over trash and shred it also.

Hey, dont they arrest people for not mowing their yards? Whats wrong with mowing a park because the city cant afford to? You would think the city would be grateful.

Why would I do something like that? I say let the grass grow and let things return back to the wild...

Our county in the 90s shut down our recycle center (they didn't think it was important) after I had saved up and washed and flattened hundreds of cat and dog food cans. I took those cans, put them in a big plastic garbage bag, went down to the county commissioners offices, opened the door, walked to the center of the tiled area, and dropped that bag of cans in the middle of the floor with a note saying "DO NOT ignore this problem. Deal with it!". Then left. When I dropped them it sounded like several mayonaise jars breaking, though they were just cans. The commissioners came running out. We now have one of the best recycling centers in Oregon.
