I don't think I can even if I did lift the tail.

aaaand, thanks to google, now I can. With the tail up, I mean.

Oh wait, I know. You can tell if they're mating.. the male is probably going to be on top.

Sometimes but it's of course a 50/50 guess. Orange tabbies are males 99% of the time but I've had a female orange tabby.

We had 5 kittens last fall I took care of until they went to the rescue for adoption. For some reason I never bothered checking the gender. My guess by looks and personality 4 of the five were female and 1 a male. I was totally wrong. The 4 I thought were females were males and the last one was a female.

Both of our current cats tend to walk around with their tails up (that's normal, right?) Anyway, you can tell without needing to lift because it's already lifted. Though, maybe that's not what you meant.

Yes.

Especially if it's a Tortie or a Calico.

But, like MOST humans.... you can tell with a glance.

Nope! Some cats have small balls or no balls at all along with long hair so even if the tail is up; you have to do a little searching...

Yep! Like MOST humans! * smile *

I asked this because a little cat adopted ME last week. I had a bunch of people over and they were referring to it as HE when I kept calling it HER. When I realized that, I lifted the tail to confirm my guess and she is a SHE! I never really questioned it from the moment I saw her; her look and her demeanor screamed SHE....

Our cats have short hair, so you can see things. Though, our male is neutered, so what you see are sad, deflated sacks.

 * laughing out loud * I thought I should add "most" to be accurate.

See? Cats have very feminine or masculine mannerisms. I've always wondered how people always guess gender wrong in cats. To me, it's very obvious.

I'm glad you took her in. That makes you AWESOME in my book * love *

She's so sweet - I want to give Oreo away (I just had him neutered and he's had all his shots $$$) but I don't care for his personality and apparently, neither does Copycat. He keeps cat swearing at him lately but he seems to tolerate the female...

Good Lord! * shock *

Neuticles allows your pet to retain his natural look, self esteem and aids in the trauma associated with neutering. WTF?!? I think that would stem from the owner's issues....

Does that work with Leos too? If a guy says he's born in August, should I ask to see his balls? * evil smile *

No. When I used to have cats, I'd ask the vet when I took the kitten in to have it neutered or spayed.

No, not at all. So sweet (actually, quite desperate when she first arrived - starved and drooling!), she wormed her way into my heart. I tried to stay cold and asked the people present if they wanted a cat but now I want to give Oreo away and keep her! She's so sweet! Oreo's an ass...

Really? I can see where it might be a problem with a poodle or a sheepdog or some other long haired shaggy beast, but on most short haired dogs, it's kinda hard to miss the swinging dick...
