| bill | posted 19-May-2009 8:32am While walking near Harvard, I saw Natalie Portman. So, I stared at her. I think she saw me because she glared a bit at me, then walked in such a way as to avoid me. I was in a big crowd of people outside the wedding of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. We saw Grace Slick and Andy Warhol go into the little church (on Cape Cod, maybe Hyannis?). When Arnold arrived, he drove by with the window down in his limo, smoking a big fat cigar. I have pictures somewhere. I was a teenager at the time. I watched a total solar eclipse with Wendy Carlos. |

| ElvisFan67 | posted 19-May-2009 8:35pm I've seen Cooter from The Dukes of Hazzard (Ben Jones) several times at local county fairs and at Duke Fest, where I've actually stood near Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach) while she was signing autographs. I also stood right beside Sissy Spacek at a vending machine.
But as far as officially introducing myself to a celebrity, I've never done so. |
| Matty | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 19-May-2009 8:37pm He was ok, but the nicest, most regular guy, was Ben Afflek. He is a real person; he actually shook my hand and bought me a beer when the interview was over. We actually had a 15-20 minute conversation about Non-Hollywood, Non-Army regular guy stuff. |

| cprasky | posted 20-May-2009 10:03pm Hmmm.... Depends on what exactly you mean by "celebrity". I met Pat Robertson a time or two when I was in high school. I also met Scot Ross, a Christian radio personality in the 1970s. I shook hands with President Ford when I was in boot camp. And I said hello to Carlos Mencia and my son shook his hand a couple of years ago when he did a show at Norfolk Scope. Oh, I almost forgot, I met Wavy Gravy at a Woodstock reunion when I lived in New York State in 1989. I got him to sign the organ donor statement on the back of my New York drivers license. Wavy Gravy used to pal around with Abbie Hoffman. He also ran the "Nobody for President" campaign in what, 1968...?
WG: "Who cut your taxes?" Crowd: "Nobody!!!!" WG: "Who kept every campaign promise he ever made?" Crowd: "Nobody!!!" WG: "Who ended the war in Viet Nam?" Crowd: "Nobody!!!" WG: "Who do you want to be the next President of the United States?" Crowd: "Nobody!!!" |
| cprasky | (reply to Matty) posted 20-May-2009 10:07pm Sam Waterston.
He was in a movie with Walter Mathau in the 1970s or 60s. It was spy flick called Hopscotch. Pretty good. He's probably been in lots of other stuff, but that's the only thing I've seen him in besides Law and Order. |
| Iseult | posted 22-May-2009 10:26am I had a dream last night that I met Stephen Harper. Fun. |
| Biggles | posted 22-May-2009 11:27pm I've met a moderately well-known children's author on a number of occasions - often enough that he probably knows my name. Various of my lecturers/tutors at Oxford are well-known, including to the wider public - one makes regular TV appearances on documentaries, pop science and entertainment programmes. That's all that springs to mind in terms of people I have actually spoken to. I've seen/sat near quite a few celebrities - I saw various people speak at the Oxford Union (like Patrick Stewart, John Rhys Davies, Charlotte Church, Phillip Pullman, Sven Goran Erikkson, and others who I can't recall of the top of my head). I've also sat next to Richard Dawkins in seminars in Oxford on several occasions - well, actually he came and sat near me because I would never have strolled over and sat by him as a lowly undergraduate! I knew someone who was in Band of Brothers - does that count? I knew him before he was acting professionally though. I don't think I've met any famous doctors yet (though my old tutor was apparently infamous in the local area) - though several people I knew featured briefly in various episodes of a series of Trauma that was filmed at the hospital where I used to work.
Someone did tell me that one of my former patients was famous for something, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. If I did remember, I probably couldn't tell you anyway! |
| Iseult | (reply to Biggles) posted 23-May-2009 2:43pm Did you get to speak to Richard Dawkins? |
| Biggles | (reply to Iseult) posted 31-May-2009 6:47pm No - I was a mere undergrad... I had tutorials with his ex-wife though! |
| Iseult | (reply to Biggles) posted 31-May-2009 8:26pm Oh yeah? What subject? |
| Biggles | (reply to Iseult) posted 31-May-2009 8:29pm Animal behaviour. |
| cloudhugger | posted 14-Jun-2009 12:01pm No, not really. It's kinda hard to say how one becomes a celebrity. I've been with people whom are celebrities in their own circles and I have been called somewhat celebretic, but one that is in movies, famous for entertaining or pulitzer prize winning or on the cover of the tv guide is such a small population percentage, the chances of winning this opportunity has for now escaped me.
There is a young lady from my town who will be on a summer series. It will premere next month. she has been on several sitcoms and a soap so far as an extra. Sheis one of my clients, so I do wish her well, she is good people. i met a woman who had many famous celebrities as clients . Does that count? |

| autumnlight | posted 13-Jul-2009 8:15pm Yeah, loads. I'll just include the ones I've actually spoken to - Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, James Marsters, Alexis Denisof, Sean Astin, Craig Charles, Some guys from Stargate Atlantis that I can't remember the name of, Edge, Rikishi, Michael Cole, Hurley from Lost, Corin Nemec, Shane Richie, Fred Durst, DJ Lethal, Westlife, Billie Piper, Five, Jason Orange, CKY, John Cena, Peter Schmeichel, Andy Cole, Phil Neville, David Beckham, David May. There's more, but I can't think off the top of my head. |
| Melf | posted 29-Jul-2009 7:35am Not met. I walked past Ralph Fiennes in town once. Called Piers Morgan a chicken. Noel Gallagher once passed me in the centre of town (and I swear Manc fashion is coming back). Um. Heard Phil Neville give a speech at my brother's Bolton uni graduation (the height of intellectualism). They're all a bit crap. |
