| dab | posted 18-May-2009 8:40am I vastly prefer it to be on my schedule. I'm a big fan of TiVo. |
| Biggles | posted 18-May-2009 8:44am Definitely a good thing. I actually end up watching less TV because I can watch exactly what I want, and don't waste time aimlessly flicking in the hope of finding something that suits my mood. It also means that I can come across an interesting programme halfway through and know that I can watch it in full later. |
| Matty | posted 18-May-2009 8:50am I'm not sure the explanation actually explains anything, nor am I sure what it has to do with the relevant issues surrounding ready access.
But like most advances in media and/or technology, there are pros and cons. In this case I like the idea of being able to watch what I want when I want to on my comouter. On the other hand, there is also something to be said for anticipation. |
| FordGuy | posted 18-May-2009 9:50am The world just keeps getting lazier and lazier. |
| cprasky | posted 18-May-2009 9:57am Don't know if it's good or bad. I don't record much anymore, but I used to. Usually, I buy DVD if there is something I want to see. As for television, I tend to watch the History channel a lot, programs like The Universe and the past decoded series. Also the Science channel. I like crime dramas as well, the Law and Order programs and of course House, just because I think he's funny. |
| LindaH | posted 18-May-2009 10:35am It's a good thing. Some people might have problems abusing it or becoming lazy, but most people can deal with it. It's a practical convenience. |
| Galomorro | posted 18-May-2009 10:56am Good thing. Something for everyone. |
| jettles | posted 18-May-2009 11:26am good as long as you aren't watching or listening to entertainment 24/7. |
| bill | posted 18-May-2009 11:39am I would prefer it if movies were available for home viewing right away (same time as theaters). But, I also don't like to pay too much.
I think it's clear that consumers want to download content right away, on demand, etc. The smart media companies will provide this to them. The others will eventually die off. I think part of what drives piracy is consumer demand for downloaded content. Providers have been slow to adapt, but it seems like they are slowly getting there. |
| LJD | posted 18-May-2009 11:50am I remember when our cable was only $8 a month. We had adequate entertainment, and you can watch only so much, so little time.
The entertainment world has taken away from the family. We used to entertain ourselves. I remember I was 11 years old when we received our first TV. We were the first on the block, and all the kids gathered at our house for a time. It was only on a couple days a week, had a real small screen, I think it was a 9" screen, Time away from TV was good. Our family listened to the radio, gathered together, played games, played dolls, mother was sewing, dad reading...we were together, conversed. We had family friends, visited each other, we had so much fun. The TV media has helped destroy the family. |
| LindaH | (reply to bill) posted 18-May-2009 4:35pm It wouldn't break my heart any to see movie theaters go away. In this day and age, they should be putting stuff out on DVD as soon as it is released. It feels like we're being pressured into going to theaters just because we want to see a film. I always wait for the DVD. Last time I went to a theater, I was being paid to go. |
| bill | (reply to LindaH) posted 18-May-2009 4:46pm It is kind of sad to lose movie theaters. Well, I assume some might still survive. But, less for sure. That's my impression anyway.
I wait for cable for a lot of stuff... I think I'm a bit jaded now, though too. I mean, how many comic-book super heroes action adventure movies can you see without feel a bit tired of it? |
| Crayons | posted 18-May-2009 8:02pm Well, it's good for ME. |
| Enheduanna | posted 20-May-2009 9:17am I think it's great because it frees you from being a slave to the tv schedule. You're probably going to watch the show anyway, and this way you don't have to interrupt your life to do it. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 24-May-2009 11:20am A bad thing since most of the stuff they have is crap and nothing I want to listen to or watch no matter when it is on or when I can be there to watch or listen to it... |
| they | posted 25-May-2009 10:16am Wooo hoooo!
I don't know what I ever did before it. |
| LindaH | posted 25-May-2009 11:02pm Make me laugh, NOW!!! |
