| labjog | posted 11-May-2009 11:25am Very true. |
| dab | posted 11-May-2009 1:06pm I assume that you meant to ask if we agreed with the quote, as in do we think the quote reflects truth. |
| LindaH | posted 11-May-2009 3:08pm No. We are who we really are, in the here and now. Not who we think we are or who we used to be. Since who we want to become is a part of who we are now, I'd keep that in there. |
| labjog | posted 11-May-2009 8:25pm But we are who we are because of past experiences. |
| LindaH | posted 11-May-2009 8:51pm But we aren't currently who we 'were'. It makes us who we are now. One person. |
| CGTREE | posted 11-May-2009 10:34pm yeah i guess so.... |
| cloudhugger | (reply to dab) posted 12-May-2009 9:12am I did have a bit of trouble with the wording. I had it as "do you agree with this quote?" and I could not because it had already been used as a survey question. The system wouldn't let me. I didn't get a chance to get check on this in qual, it seems it flew through before I could get back to it, otherwise I would have mentioned it there.
I oughta tell bill about this. |
| Matty | posted 12-May-2009 11:07am I don't agree; unless of course, my three selves could fudge three different women at one time. |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 12-May-2009 12:43pm What if a person doesn't want to become anything? Does that make them less of a person? |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 12-May-2009 2:20pm I'm not one to judge. |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 12-May-2009 2:25pm I meant, in context of the quote. If the quote is true, then people who live for now and don't want to 'become' anything are only 2 people. |
| dab | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 12-May-2009 2:57pm I had no idea the system prevented identical questions like that. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 13-May-2009 1:25pm I cannot concieve of not thinking about tomorrow. There is a state of being in the moment, but I cannot imagine not being in any kind of state of preparedness ofr the next moment, so I don't know. |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 14-May-2009 1:19am "Who we want to become" made me think of long term goals and plans. I was referring to people who'll have none of that. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 14-May-2009 5:31am Think of it as maybe someone looking to be happier in the future. Or more popular, or less popular. Basically, seeing their life as it is now, and looking to improve it. Of course there are some who do not do that, and I am not htinking of them for this survey. |
| Enheduanna | posted 16-May-2009 5:55pm I like it. (I'm going with "yes," although I think it's odd to call a quotation "agreeable.") |
| Gomezy3k | posted 17-May-2009 10:25am Very true... actually think there is a 4th... it should read: "We are always four people at once. Who we were, who we think we are, who we REALLY ARE, and who we want to become." |
| risingroad | posted 17-May-2009 1:45pm .... "Who we are now". I'm not Christian but Jesus did say "We are in this world, but not of it". And "Heaven (or is it "this world") has many mansions" or dimensions. So how we experience ourselves changes when we rise up into each realm to finally be "one with God, in how you understand him or her". Wow... that's deep. Where did that come from? (From "Me", my child). |
| babb001 | posted 17-May-2009 3:05pm excellent quote! |
| LindaH | (reply to Gomezy3k) posted 18-May-2009 1:03am Who we thought we were, who we wish we could become, who we think we can become... |
| Melf | posted 24-May-2009 4:19pm Hmph. |
| coffee5437 | posted 26-Jun-2009 1:16pm Not possible, since I left the old behind, my thinking about myself constantly changes and I never get to who I want to become because I am always changing. I am only a human "being me" at any particular moment in time.
I only know one who is three at once, God the father, son and holy spirit. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to babb001) posted 20-Jul-2009 9:26am Thanks, I made it up. I wanted unbiased answers. |
