If others are dependent on me, I will follow through

It depends at which point in mood cycle I'm in. If it's a high point, things will get done then and there. If I'm low, I'll start, get bored and sitracted and not look at it again until it absolutely has to be done.

It's hard to pick an answer because none seems to quite fit the way I think about this. In particular I'm not sure I know what you mean by "strong", or I just don't think about it that way really. I think I'm pretty good at following through on things. But, I think this is mostly because I'm careful about what I agree to take on. I also don't tend to work under deadlines. I don't tend to think of tasks as hard or easy, I think. I just do them and sometimes they take a long time. There are times when I give up on things I set out to do as well. I think I also avoid making promises, but instead phrase things more vaguely or realistically: "I'd like to see if I can improve that." rather than "I will improve that." I guess it's sort of like under-promising and (hopefully) over delivering.

I tell people not to have me promise anything, because that's a sure sign I'll never get around to it or that Murphy's Law will kick in and prevent the activity.

I get around to most everything plan in life, but not until I forget to even put it on my list of things to do.

Not always. Once I verbally commit to something, that makes me 10 times more likely to NOT want to do it.

It is definetly a challenge for me because it is a serious goal of mine to finish strong.

It's a zen thing to keep the same strength from start through to finish.

You do do that...over deliver like you said. Hmmm...kinda makes you a hero rather than a zero. It works for you!

It really depends on the situation. Often, people says that they'll do things out of social politeness, but you both know, you have no intentions of doing what you said and vice versa, "Sure, I'd love to get togehter," etc. Other times, follow through is a definite expectation, "I write that memo by COB today," etc.

For me it becomes like 10x tougher to do.

The obligation makes me resent it, because now I "should" do it instead of 'want' to do it.

Depends to a large extent on what it is. If it's something I really want to do, sure. Other times, I will start something and then for some reason

Even if it's something I wanted to do, when I additionally I 'should' do it (even for entertainments sake), it becomes a wearying depressing burden somehow, or something I simply never have time to get around to, even if I tell myself months on end that that's what I'll work on today.

If someone stand over me with a whip, I follow through..otherwise, I just tell people what they want to hear and go on my merry way... I would prefer to be left alone and not bothered...

Depends on what it is. I think you have to have a lot of faith in yourself. If you have no faith , you have no guide. Cheesy but true.

I guess this survey isn't about wet farts after all...

And to answer the (actual) question - I follow through pretty well on things related to my professional life because I'm a good plodder and one of my greatest strengths is that I can get my head down to work until a job is done. I'm not so good at that in my personal life - I'm much more likely to leave things hanging - which is one of my greatest weaknesses.

You poor thing; the conclusions your career has made your mind jump to. Don't you regret not becoming a golf instructor?

I know - my mind has been spoiled forever more. I think it's because we were discussing overflow diarrhoea in the case of someone with bowel obstruction...
