I did after this survey. The first one to come up was an article about an H & K assault rifle that was designed in the early 1990s and adopted by the German military. Next was an article about an obscure Austrian pathologist whose name I now can't recall...

Yes. I think it's pretty stupid too. Really, I think wikis are often kind of crappy for not having very good indexing of articles... so crappy that sometimes it seems like your only choice is to try a random page to find something that you may not have a specific/accurate name for.

I have not. However, I love Wikipedia. It is a most-excellent resource for checking up random facts/reminding yourself of something's function. In particular, it's incredibly good at explaining the immune system in a clear and logical fashion - much better than my textbooks in fact.
