| FauxLo | posted 27-Apr-2009 4:52pm It depends on my mood and if the lot is full or not. If it's empty or there are few enough cars around for me to safely break the rules, I break them. However, there are also times when a lot is completely empty and I follow the suggestive rules. |
| dab | posted 27-Apr-2009 4:59pm Generally yes. Especially in your example about the parking lot. Most fender benders happen in parking lots so I drive especially carefully there. |
| jettles | posted 27-Apr-2009 5:57pm i do if a lot of other people are around. so i don't hurt anyone. |
| cloudhugger | posted 27-Apr-2009 6:21pm I follow most, or all depending on how busy the place is. Even at night if I am absolutely sure that there isn't that guy or crazy soccer mom careeening across the lot like there is no tomorrow.
It was very difficult, for the record, to not sound too biased against those that do that. Very strssful on the adrenals sometimes those crazy non-suggested rule non followers. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to FauxLo) posted 27-Apr-2009 6:23pm And I was thinking about bored cops crashing into shopping carts...probably smoking crack...in the empty hours of the night. |
| Galomorro | posted 27-Apr-2009 6:52pm Don't drive. |

| Enheduanna | posted 27-Apr-2009 9:35pm Usually, to be safe. If the lot was deserted and it would be quicker to ignore the lines, I might just drive straight across. |
| bill | posted 28-Apr-2009 8:43am If it seems safe to do so, I will sometimes drive across parking lines. But, if there are other cars or people around, I will generally follow them. |
| Cain | posted 28-Apr-2009 9:27am I tend just to go straight acros and ignore the lines, but only if there are no other cars about. I'm a big wuss when it comes to parking, and will often drive right to the top of the ar park just so I don't need to park next to anyone. |
| LindaH | posted 28-Apr-2009 11:24am For a while, a parking lot here was torn up because of construction, and so temporary lines, directional signs and cones were everywhere, to keep some sort of order and show everyone where they were supposed to drive. Fair enough, it would be a bit confusing without all that. But here's the sad part: The whole time all this construction was going on, they had a bunch of security cars driving around the parking lot.
Are people really that stupid that they can't follow signs and lines and cones without security cars to follow too? |
| they | posted 28-Apr-2009 3:14pm If there's no one around, what's the point?
I will generally follow suggestions.... unless it's unreasonable. |
| Matty | posted 29-Apr-2009 12:06pm you can get ticketed for doing that kind of stuff; I don't think "suggested" is appropriate. |
| wigarach | posted 30-Apr-2009 6:49am I do what i want when i want thanks |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Matty) posted 30-Apr-2009 7:03pm I don't think they ticket on private property here by me. Unless there is an accident and someone calls the poklice, I have never in my life heard getting tickets in parking ots. I don't remember my Rules of the Road, but maybe it varies from state to state? |
| southernyankee | (reply to LindaH) posted 30-Apr-2009 11:09pm Are people really that stupid that they can't follow signs and lines and cones without security cars to follow too?
I don't think its that. Its not stupidity, its knowing that there aren't any consequences for not following those lines. The security guards are there to keep the construction guys safe. |
| Matty | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 30-Apr-2009 11:15pm In MD parking lots even have stop signs. As long as parking lots have defined lanes and traffic control measures, cops can ticket; that's how the magistrate explained it to me when I go a ticket for running a stop sign. Of course, I'm equally positive States do vary. I just can't see complete lawlessness in parking lots. |
| LindaH | (reply to southernyankee) posted 1-May-2009 12:01am The construction was going on behind a huge fence, where a portion of the parking lot was closed off. Are there any less consequences for not following temporary lines than permanent ones? |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Matty) posted 1-May-2009 8:07am Yes, we have stop signs, but there is almost chaos around here. It isn't near as bad, I noticed, as it used to be. Maybe there are tickets being given out. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 2-May-2009 11:49pm Most of whatever is safe and sensible.
Outside of the parking lot I consider rules suggestions too. |
| Kristal_Rose | On the other hand they can create their own laws like forbidding shirts with particular political sentiments.
Parking lots do have stop signs here in California, but I don't know if it's enforceable or not. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 3-May-2009 9:56am ALL rules are just suggestions... Democrats consider rules that you should pay taxes as only suggestions (just look at Obama's appointees)... So if the can do it why can't the rest of us? Another example, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS... According to the LWLs who want them to stay and make them legal, our immigration laws should be ignored... so therefore one can only thing that "Fools follow rules"... |
| LindaH | (reply to Gomezy3k) posted 4-May-2009 9:46pm If you have a conscience, you don't need laws. |
| FordGuy | posted 5-May-2009 10:20am Depends. If I'm drunk you can't suggest anything to me. |

Especially as a pedestrian! If I am in a parking lot with painted lines for pedestrians to 'follow', I pay no attention to those and I walk where I'm most comfortable. Someone honked at me for that before, and I thought he was an idiot. Nothing says you have to walk on the stripes.
