Sex sells.

Plus, I think some people use it as some kind of show offy 'see how dirty I can get' kind of thing. I swear some adults are still rebelling against their repressed upbringing when they go over the top.

A legitimate form of literary expression. I know I wasn't being unethical or disgusting when I wrote the sex scenes for my novel. You know, the one you can buy a digital copy of for $1.99(US) at stores.lulu.com/arkle? * wink *

People have sex, people will write about it. Its as scandalous as people have showers, people write about it. Or people drink coffee, people will write about it.

It really depends on the novel and the way the content is written.

There is no need for explicit sexual material.

When it serves the story. You're not a writer so you wouldn't understand.

Poppycock! There is no reason for blatant, explicit sexual contents...leave a little to the imagination.

OK, show of hands, who here has sold any novels? *raises hand, looks around, sees LJD's hands still down* Like I said. You aren't a writer. You don't get it.

Also, I find it ironic you used the word poppycock. *drum roll*

So, simple processing is preferable to more accurate results...

 * smile * You're a bit of a character Frosty. Frosty, I'm not a professional writer, granted. If I wanted to write a book, I wouldn't use sex to sell, I'd depend on my writing abilities to put my point across. When in high school, I wrote an essay that won a state contest. I've written many letters to newspapers, been accepted. I just haven't chose to write a book.

Have you written a novel? If so, congratulations!

Thank you for drawing my attention to this limit. Don't worry though, my methodology shall be explained in my final work! * wink *
But, you know, more answers might also result in more confusion instead of better accuracy.
The way surveys are built depends on what researchers need to observe. It may look a bit selfish. And it is, actually!
As a survey answerer, I often experienced this feeling of frustration, too!

Yeah, no big deal, but it's just a classic problem I see with surveys... "pick one of these answers", but none of them really capture the truth/reality. So, the survey results end up being wrong or flawed, but people still put a lot of faith in them.

We just do surveys for fun here, but we've kind of built up a culture around it and there are some defacto things we tend to do, like providing an "other" answer (in case none of the answers apply). Also, it's a big faux pas to not include people in a question. If you make a survey and your get a lot of "other" answers, you know you missed something major in your question/answers.

I seriously hope that you don't think I wrote the sex scenes just to "sell." Hack writers do that kind of thing, not the real deal. You tell the story that's there. I couldn't take the sex out of And Here's To You anymore than a palaenotologist can turn the T-rex fossil he's uncovered into a Velociraptor fossil. he may want too 'cause he thinks Velociraptors are cooler, but...

Hmmm...I was torn between "A legitimate form literary expression" and "Something rather stimulating". I went with the former, but the latter does apply as well.

Yeah, but at least it wasn't one of those multiples that is a de facto single... * smile *

Frosty, congratulations on writing a book. Intimacy is natural, but depends on what extent it needs to be expressed, whether it be on film, or book. I like soft intimacy, something which leaves, the person reading or watching, something to the imagination. I think blatant, raw sexual content is only to create lust, which is wrong.

Again, congratulations! I somehow don't think you would write a book with raw sexual contents, just to sell.
