What are your thoughts about Senioritis?

Senioritis, the 'disease' that affects so many twelfth graders resulting in a sort of sluggishness at school and a devil-may-care attitude about grades as the quarter draws to a close and graduation draws nearer. Do you think Senioritis is a good excuse for Seniors to be lazy during their last year of high school? Is there a more logical reason as to why Seniors seem to feel this way? Should teachers or parents step up to prevent this lax in caring about school or is Senioritis just something that everyone gets during the month before graduation when Spring is in the air and freedom is at their fingertips?

It's a natural part of human nature and teachers should expect it. Doesn't mean teachers should give into it, but they shouldn't be too surprised.

I don't think it's limited to seniors. My kids are always more lax in spring. I think by then they are sick of schoolwork.

I wouldn't know. I had this affliction all through high school.

I think it's fine. They deserve it.

I believe I experienced something like this. In my last year at school I was just entirely fed up with it all and was counting the days until I could move on. I wish someone had given me a bloody good talking to, becasue I didn't do as well in my final exams as I should have, but then no-one else seemed to give a crap either. As it turned out, I still got into uni and did a good job there.

I think it's something that happens frequently to seniors. I'm not sure much can be done about it.

We get the opposite happening here - people nearing the end of the school or university year seem to suddenly start cramming madly away in the hope that they can make up for earlier laziness.

It's a bank holiday and my uni is on Easter vacation, but the library was pretty busy most of the time I was there. I was disturbed by all the abandoned piles of books that had clearly been left by medical students in my year. There is some crazy revision going on.

I got horrible grades in high school and excellent grades in college. I hated high school.

I loved the freedom of uni - a 9-5 routine has never suited me and being responsible for my own workload meant I could spend 36 hours on the trot doing essays and revision, and then do whatever the hell I wanted for the rest of the week. Wish I could still do it now!

I liked that too. I also liked the atmosphere. I think mature teens should be allowed to go to uni type of high schools and be treated like adults.

I had Senioritis in my Junior year. * winking raspberry *

It's like running in a marathon -- as you get close to the finish line, it's okay to slow down because it's not about winning. It's about finishing the course.

It's too small a moment in time in a persons life to put so much energy into it and thinking about.

My "senioritis" was directly connected to marijuana and alcohol.

Maybe someone should have a look at that.
