| bill | posted 7-Apr-2009 6:36am I'd definitely want to get rid of them. |
| gambler | posted 7-Apr-2009 8:43am I bought them to Jamaica, and buried them in a cemetary and had a headstone made and built a block for it......My Dad has a memorial in the UK that he visits every year |
| LJD | posted 7-Apr-2009 9:18am My parents ashes are in the possession of my brother. They're in two lovely boxes, sitting on a shelf. Personally, once I am gone, my children can do as they wish.
All I want is to enjoy my family as much as I can while I'm alive. I love them with every breath I breathe. |

| Amanda | posted 7-Apr-2009 2:59pm Do what the deceased wanted. Unless they wanted to sit on my mantel. That's so not happening!
We'll get my grandma's ashes back this summer and bury them next to my grandfather. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 8-Apr-2009 12:22am It's been nearly a year, and as far as I know, my son's ashes are still just in a jar and weren't even put in the urn my mom got. I think scattering in the river would have been good. But it's not in my hands, and since his wife moved to Hawaii, apparently not in anyones hands except his step-mother's.
I don't think his wife has quite accepted it all yet, so maybe some ceremony will provide closure later. My younger cousins ashes were spread at sea. That was a cool party. ~ I had a room mate with very few posessions who moved around a lot, but one of them was his fathers ashes. |
| smurf | posted 8-Apr-2009 1:14am I'd do whatever the person had requested that we do, if anything.
However, I'm not a big fan of scattering all of a person's ashes. My mum has done a lot of work with our family history / genealogy, and I believe it is important that every person has a 'marker', which stays on this earth as a reminder that they were here, and to enable future generations to trace their family history and heritage if they so wish. If a loved one wanted their ashes scattered in a particular place, I would scatter half of them in that place, then bury the remainder in a cemetery or garden of remembrance, with a plaque. It provides a 'marker' (for want of a better word!) to recognize who they were, and a place to go to grieve and remember the person for loved ones. When my uncle died, all we knew was that he wanted to be cremated. My Grandma wanted to scatter his ashes in her garden, but we didn't want to do that - if she moved, or died, the house and property would most likely be sold. So we buried half of his ashes in a cemetery, then scattered the other half in her garden. (They were very close). |
| cloudhugger | posted 8-Apr-2009 10:40am For my two dogs, I had one for three years until the onther one was in ashes. I then took them both and scattered them in the park where we would all play. I than buried the remaining handful of ashes in the urn (more like a tin can) and burried them next to the cat corpse. I have a mini pet cemetary in my yard. It was a month later I found out we were moving. That kinda fudgeed me up a bit. |
