| Frostbrand | posted 20-Feb-2009 8:34am That depends on their political views. If s/he disagreed with me on key issues, then I would not be pleased. |
| Matty | posted 20-Feb-2009 9:01am I may, if I liked him. But it depends what kind of athesit.
If he were a wackadoo, "religion is evil," atheist...no. Nor would he be likely to make it very far. If he were simply a guy who didn't believe in God, I don't see why not. I suspect this is yet another Wicksy attempt to force a discussion about religion. ...schocker, I was right. |
| Enheduanna | posted 20-Feb-2009 9:54am Absolutely. It would be great if we elected someone who was open about being an atheist. (I'm sure we've actually elected atheists before and just don't know it.) |
| Galomorro | posted 20-Feb-2009 10:58am Yes, I would prefer that he/she be an atheist/agnostic. |
| Iseult | posted 20-Feb-2009 11:57am Sure.
But it's not really up to my acceptance - Stephen Harper is the PM whether I like it or not. |
| Biggles | posted 20-Feb-2009 12:31pm Not only accept, I would welcome an atheist Prime Minister. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 20-Feb-2009 1:30pm Yes and atheist would make a good leader |
| LindaH | posted 20-Feb-2009 2:32pm Of course. |
| cantilever | posted 20-Feb-2009 10:40pm O course- what's religion got to do with leading a modern, western country. maybe don't ask this question in Pakistan! |
| Wicksy | posted 21-Feb-2009 4:42am It would be great. At least they wouldn't use God's blessing as a reason to go to war! |
| southernyankee | posted 21-Feb-2009 10:35am Yes, I could give two craps one way or the other about it. |
| Melf | posted 21-Feb-2009 11:13am Not that it matters if I accept them or not, as long as the majority does, but yes, I would be content enough. |
| gambler | posted 21-Feb-2009 4:24pm Yes |
| JohnCD | posted 21-Feb-2009 11:10pm I would have to recognize that atheist as the leader of my country, but I wouldn't be very accepting of that person at all, especially if they were a militant atheist. |
| kcthedog | posted 21-Feb-2009 11:48pm I do believe in a higher power and I would hope that a leader did also but when it comes to making decisions about human and social matters religion needs to be kept separate from the state. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 22-Feb-2009 12:47pm Why not... it's not like any of them have followed any of "god's" rules. |
| Nitroeddy | posted 23-Feb-2009 9:52am Makes no difference how I feel about it if one is elected. |
| bombill | posted 24-Feb-2009 10:43pm Sure, everybody makes mistakes. |
| FauxLo | posted 25-Feb-2009 12:55pm Totally. |
| cloudhugger | posted 2-Mar-2009 10:09am Not sure. If the athiest was a real jerk I would not. If the athiest made sound decisions that would benefit everyone than I would. |
| cloudhugger | posted 2-Mar-2009 10:11am Just a note, it is a bit more comforting to elect someone that you can connect to on some personal level. |
