| LindaH | posted 6-Feb-2009 8:47pm Some traits are changable, other ones aren't. Most traits shouldn't be changed at all. |
| Psychopath | posted 6-Feb-2009 8:56pm I think we can. |
| Crayons | posted 6-Feb-2009 9:25pm It depends on what you mean by truly.
If you mean by truly as in really, and for a fact, yes. People can definately change some things. If you mean by truly as in totally, no, people can't change to be completely different, at least not on their own. |
| jettles | posted 6-Feb-2009 10:56pm in what way, as a singular person or as a whole? |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 6-Feb-2009 11:17pm No way can anybody change their human nature and who they are just no way , people are people and men and
women are who they are and we are stuck being the person we are and we simply cannot go into the hospital and change that part of us whether we are gay or heterosexual or transgendered that one part of us will remain and even if we have a facelift that will not change us inside our true human nature , we can change ourselves physically on the outside but we are who we truly are born to be whether it is male or female |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to jettles) posted 6-Feb-2009 11:22pm > in what way, as a singular person or as a whole?
As a whole person Jettles we simply cannot change our pesonality it is a part of us and who we are as humans and we all have our different DNA cells as well and all the facelifts in the world cannot change who we really are and we are either male or female and we know our own bodies and who we honestly are? |
| LindaH | posted 7-Feb-2009 12:11am Personality is a trait that's changable in a lot of ways.
Why isn't changable a word? |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to LindaH) posted 7-Feb-2009 12:16am > Personality is a trait that's changable in a lot of ways.

| Enheduanna | posted 7-Feb-2009 9:16am Well, sort of. We have scientific tools that we can use in order to manipulate our gene pool and our DNA. And we're evolving biologically and socially in various ways all the time. But on the individual level, I don't think we can really change who we are, either in terms of human nature or in terms of our own individual personalities. Maybe small changes, but it's rare that someone makes a major and fundamental change. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to LindaH) posted 7-Feb-2009 9:18am If "chang" were a verb, it would be. |
| jettles | (reply to JessicaWoman99) posted 7-Feb-2009 9:49am i meant singularly or as a whole human race. |
| LindaH | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:06am ahhh okay. I was just spelling it wrong. Lov isn't a verb, though. |
| LindaH | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:08am It's not that rare for extremely shy people to become socially gregarious. But then, maybe that would have been due to getting rid of excessive anxiety or something. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to LindaH) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:30am I think it has to do with the fact that the e changes the pronunciation of the g. G followed by a is hard, whereas g followed by e is (or can be) soft. So you can't drop the e in this case or it would sound funny. |
| LindaH | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:31am oh, I see. Thanks. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to LindaH) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:32am Or maybe it's not really that fundamental a change, but rather is overcoming something temporarily out of an already-existing desire. |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to jettles) posted 7-Feb-2009 11:42am > i meant singularly or as a whole human race.
Oh ok that makes sense to me |
| Joanne | posted 7-Feb-2009 1:13pm Yes. Two words. Plastic surgery. |

Like maybe the first brain or heart transplant from another person and having all their thoughts? |
| southernyankee | posted 7-Feb-2009 3:05pm Yes, if we put our minds to it. Selective breading, eugenics, mind altering drugs come to mind. Whether these things are ethical or not is besides the point, but can it be done? Abso-fudging-lootly. |
| FauxLo | posted 7-Feb-2009 3:11pm Yes, individually, but as a species, no. |
| cloudhugger | posted 7-Feb-2009 6:42pm Yes. Our attitudes, belief systems, our cellular memmories can all be changed.
No, we cannot change who we are and where we have been. These defining factors make up our foundations. Maybe. Human beings change themselves every moment of every day. Some better, some worse, sometimes filing info away for future use. |
| LJD | posted 7-Feb-2009 7:58pm Yes, and no. |
| kcthedog | posted 7-Feb-2009 8:40pm Absolutely! Not only is it possible it is our purpose to exist as humans, to achieve and transcend our mortal being beyond to experience our spiritual selves!

| JessicaWoman99 | Mind Body and Spirit should have mentioned this because it cannot change no matter what |
| LJD | (reply to JessicaWoman99) posted 8-Feb-2009 2:04am I think we're predestined to some degree, while learned earthly behaviors can be changed. |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to LJD) posted 8-Feb-2009 3:07am > I think we're predestined to some degree, while learned earthly behaviors

| kcthedog | (reply to JessicaWoman99) posted 8-Feb-2009 11:44pm The human element of ourselves is the most fragile, our minds can expand and continually learn, and our spirit is not really definable but our mortal existence is limited so change is inevitable, how much we evolve is directly connected ability to adapt. |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to kcthedog) posted 9-Feb-2009 12:44am > I have always been here I just needed some time to reflect.
Can understand that but missed you |

Yes so fragile and we are all different in our own ways just looking at other people around us , some people are so short and they talk and walk funny and yet they are a beautiful person a living soul? Yes our minds can learn something brand new all of the time and something we just never knew about and i am like duh" gee never heard that before and i do know and learn about medical and medicine and more smart than my doctor realizes about what i know about the human body or what i know about medicine and it helps to learn and know things Yes we do leave our body after death as i nearly found out for myself and just floating out of my body and looking down at my body it freaked me out KC |
| Matty | posted 9-Feb-2009 8:15am This seems a little silly. We can't even define ourselves as humans, let alone make a concerted effort to change. |
| they | posted 9-Feb-2009 10:06am Are you asking me if I can change me or if I can change you? |

Can you change yourself They is what i am asking ? |
| they | (reply to JessicaWoman99) posted 10-Feb-2009 9:18am I am constantly changing Jessica.
There are teeny tiny bits of skin chafing off my fingertips as I type this. I don't even have to do much and I change myself. |
