| Crayons | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:20pm I haven't heard all of those, but I think French sounds the coolest. |
| Biggles | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:26pm I understand that Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish are all fairly similar. At least, my Romanian housemate can easily understand Italian as well as our Mexican neighbours (who obviously speak Spanish), and I know that a lot of Spanish and Portuguese people understand one another fairly well. French is the only one I have any experience of, and it sounds okay to me, but *shrugs* |
| FauxLo | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:28pm I suppose that I like the sound of all languages, but not a big fan of labeling any of them as romantic, as each language doesn't sound romantic at all when declaring war or hurting another human being. |
| LindaH | (reply to FauxLo) posted 4-Feb-2009 5:38pm Ever heard a guy hurling insults in Spanish?
*swoon* |
| FauxLo | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 5:39pm Yeah... I live in the Los Angeles area, remember? |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:50pm Love Italian he can sweep me off my feet |

| Galomorro | posted 4-Feb-2009 7:11pm I like all except Romanian and Latin and that's only because I've ever heard these two before. Have seen some Latin in print. Portuguese is my favorite, then Spanish, especially Catalan, then Italian, then French. |
| Melf | posted 4-Feb-2009 7:26pm French and Latin... omg, I feel so modern. SC + Facebook = |
| LJD | posted 4-Feb-2009 7:41pm I like French of those that are listed. |
| Iseult | posted 4-Feb-2009 8:13pm Italian and Latin.
Never was a fan of French nor Spanish. |

| FauxLo | (reply to Iseult) posted 4-Feb-2009 8:20pm ...because I can understand it... kinda. |
| Iseult | (reply to FauxLo) posted 4-Feb-2009 11:16pm I find that, too, with Spanish, but I never had any classes and I never really made any effort with it, but it just seems to stick. |
| bill | posted 5-Feb-2009 7:21am Though, I think this is a great question to ask, I can't answer because I just don't know or haven't thought about it much. When I hear a non-English language, I think I have trouble getting past my lack of understanding of it (or, just the struggle to try to understand parts of it is distracting).
Also, I know of some examples where I've heard some of these languages and they sounded harsh or unappealing, though certainly the opposite is true too. So, it probably depends a lot on tone of voice and such. In songs, most languages sound pretty good. I have some music in Spanish that sounds good to me. I'm not a huge fan of French, but that's probably because I took years of French in school (was forced to) and I didn't like it, never did very well with it. Someone once mentioned to me that Polish sounds really beautiful, but it's not a Romance language (I think), and I'm not sure if I'd agree with him anyway. It's funny how "Romance" when describing languages is really more about them being Roman (derived from Latin). But the term "romance" has a meaning related to love, heroics, etc. |
| FauxLo | (reply to Iseult) posted 5-Feb-2009 11:28am Nice. I had to endure three years of it in high school, but it was time well spent. |
| cloudhugger | posted 5-Feb-2009 12:31pm I haven't really had enough experience being around most of those, but French turns me on. |
| cerealkiller | posted 5-Feb-2009 7:04pm WTF is Catalan? Latin isn't spoken. Romanian??? I generally do not like the sound of other languages. |
| Matty | posted 6-Feb-2009 8:59am As I am most attracted to Hispanic women, esp[ecially dark ones, I prefer Spanish. |
| Joanne | posted 6-Feb-2009 6:24pm Never heard of Catalan. |
