| dab | posted 4-Feb-2009 12:21pm If there was some reason to beyond just an invitation (these days that's mainly weddings and funerals), then maybe. |
| bill | posted 4-Feb-2009 12:32pm probably not, but never say never |
| beast666 | posted 4-Feb-2009 12:41pm Only if they buy me lunch afterwards. Oh, and I refuse to donate any money. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 4-Feb-2009 1:00pm I would say no way this is a trap i am not going to Church with you those judgmental quacks |

| LindaH | posted 4-Feb-2009 1:10pm Only a special occasion, like a wedding. Unless it's a Unitarian church or something. |
| LindaH | Let's just form the Church of Lunch |
| beast666 | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 1:13pm works for me |
| FauxLo | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 1:15pm |
| Frostbrand | posted 4-Feb-2009 1:36pm That depends. Is it for a sermon, or is there a guest speaker there I might be interested in and the Church is merely the location of the speech? |
| they | posted 4-Feb-2009 2:03pm Absolutely not... and if they were my real friends and family, they would know that about me.
And because of this knowledge that they have... I would be insulted if they asked me along. |
| southernyankee | posted 4-Feb-2009 2:32pm Depends. My friend invited me to church about a week or so ago because he wanted someone to go with him. The problem being, this was a Korean Baptist church (and the actual sermons are in Korean), but my friend thought that I would at least be amused by how they talk. It didn't help that this was about 20 miles from my house. So yeah, that was a no go. |
| Enheduanna | posted 4-Feb-2009 2:34pm It would depend. I used to go to church with friends a lot, because I was curious about it, and because they had cute boys there. These days I'm a little less likely to go, but I still find it interesting sometimes. As long as I didn't think they were trying to convert me, and if I had the time, I would probably say yes. I've never been to a Catholic mass, so I'd be particularly interested in that. |
| cloudhugger | posted 4-Feb-2009 2:46pm Other: Maybe. Highly doubtful, but it would depend on the friend (more likely the less pusht they were about it, better yet, not pushy at all) or it would depend on the church. I miss going to church, but I hated the politics. |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to beast666) posted 4-Feb-2009 2:52pm > hey than sign me up!
There you are all signed up for the Baptist Church |
| cloudhugger | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 4-Feb-2009 2:52pm I really like the Catholic mass. It has a deep undertones of history and ceremony. I love the symbolism, the chanting...and than some idiot opens his mouth and spews his opinion and messes everything up for me. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 2:53pm LET THEM HAVE CAKE!! |

| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 3:13pm Looks like we have formed the Evangelical Church of lunch and Baptist oh what a trip |
| LindaH | (reply to JessicaWoman99) posted 4-Feb-2009 3:17pm I think if I had a diner, I'd call it the Eatvanedible Church of Lunch |
| Biggles | posted 4-Feb-2009 3:22pm It depends on who invited me and why. |
| ScubaScott | posted 4-Feb-2009 3:26pm Absolutely... As long as the term "invited you" is synonymous with "held you at gunpoint and forced you to go" |
| Iseult | posted 4-Feb-2009 3:48pm Quite probably. Depends on what denomination of Christianity it is. I'm not Catholic, but for Christmas, bunch of my friends decided to go and attend the Midnight Mass (before going off to a club), and I was happy to tag along. I'm okay with most mainstream denominations of Christianity. |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 4:18pm > I think if I had a diner, I'd call it the Eatvanedible Church of Lunch
Great idea! we should do that |
| Galomorro | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:10pm Probably not. The only time I go to churches is when there's a walking tour of a historical church. |
| cantilever | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:12pm Probably but I would say it goes against everything I believe. However that is not to say I haven't been in churches, marvelled at the choirs, the passion of the worshippers and the archaic rituals.
Its a question of hypocrisy. |
| llamamama | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:47pm Yes, I've been to church quite a few times with friends. |
| FauxLo | (reply to they) posted 4-Feb-2009 5:48pm Your comment made me laugh because after my grandmother's sister found out I was an atheist, she tricked me into going to a Mormon Gathering at the Mormon Church. She promised me a steak dinner, but all I got was an hour of my life taken away.
Also, when I've been dragged along to a church service, I lose my mind, which happened that night. I begin to fantasize about standing up during the service and claiming that their god is speaking through me. That, or I get a persistent fit of giggles. Or my inner thespian wants to come out and give the performance of a lifetime, where I cry and fall down and say things like, "JESUS!!! HE JUST TOUCHED MY SOUL, EVERYONE!!!" And then that fantasy takes on lives of its own... I either tell everyone that they have it all wrong and I'll straighten them out or some other variation where I enslave everyone. |
| llamamama | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 4-Feb-2009 5:49pm Actually, that's the one thing I really dislike about the Catholic mass. The fact that they seem so robotic and everything seems to have been drilled into their brains. It's like they aren't even thinking about what they're saying..it's just sort of coming out. |
| Crayons | posted 4-Feb-2009 5:57pm Only if it was a satanic church. And I don't know anyone else who is into that kind of thing...
Oh, unless we were going to do something naughty. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to llamamama) posted 4-Feb-2009 6:13pm Nah, that isn't what it is supposed to be. To understand what is happening is part of the ceremony. Someone not trained would see it like that I guess, I never thought about it like that. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 4-Feb-2009 6:36pm If only they still did the whole thing in Latin... |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 4-Feb-2009 6:40pm Oooh That's a total put-off for me. I can't stand ceremony and symbolism. Nothing against those that like it, though. It just makes me cringe. I can't exactly explain why. |
| llamamama | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 4-Feb-2009 7:36pm Well, that is how I see it. I'm not saying they don't understand what's being said, though. |
| southernyankee | (reply to LindaH) posted 4-Feb-2009 8:07pm > Oooh That's a total put-off for me. I can't stand ceremony and symbolism.
> Nothing against those that like it, though. It just makes me cringe. > I can't exactly explain why. Good thing then you didn't major in English Lit then. They seem to be pretty big on symbolism, to the point of annoyance even. |

| cloudhugger | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 4-Feb-2009 11:29pm That would rock |
| Wicksy | posted 5-Feb-2009 3:09pm For a laugh maybe, go and look and smile at the delusionals knowing that my intelligence is superior! |
| kirst | posted 5-Feb-2009 3:41pm It would depend on the context. If I was visiting my best friend and she asked us to go to church with her family, I would. I used to do this occasionally with one of my roommates in college. But if someone asked me in Hong Kong, I would decline as we already belong to a church here. My decision would also be based on which church this person belonged to. There are some that I have no desire to attend. |

When you know you're right, you're not being arrogant or ignorant. |
