If there was some reason to beyond just an invitation (these days that's mainly weddings and funerals), then maybe.

Only a special occasion, like a wedding. Unless it's a Unitarian church or something.

That depends. Is it for a sermon, or is there a guest speaker there I might be interested in and the Church is merely the location of the speech?

Absolutely not... and if they were my real friends and family, they would know that about me.

And because of this knowledge that they have... I would be insulted if they asked me along.

Depends. My friend invited me to church about a week or so ago because he wanted someone to go with him. The problem being, this was a Korean Baptist church (and the actual sermons are in Korean), but my friend thought that I would at least be amused by how they talk. It didn't help that this was about 20 miles from my house. So yeah, that was a no go.

It would depend. I used to go to church with friends a lot, because I was curious about it, and because they had cute boys there. These days I'm a little less likely to go, but I still find it interesting sometimes. As long as I didn't think they were trying to convert me, and if I had the time, I would probably say yes. I've never been to a Catholic mass, so I'd be particularly interested in that.

Other: Maybe. Highly doubtful, but it would depend on the friend (more likely the less pusht they were about it, better yet, not pushy at all) or it would depend on the church. I miss going to church, but I hated the politics.

I really like the Catholic mass. It has a deep undertones of history and ceremony. I love the symbolism, the chanting...and than some idiot opens his mouth and spews his opinion and messes everything up for me.

Quite probably. Depends on what denomination of Christianity it is. I'm not Catholic, but for Christmas, bunch of my friends decided to go and attend the Midnight Mass (before going off to a club), and I was happy to tag along. I'm okay with most mainstream denominations of Christianity.

Probably but I would say it goes against everything I believe. However that is not to say I haven't been in churches, marvelled at the choirs, the passion of the worshippers and the archaic rituals.

Its a question of hypocrisy.

Your comment made me laugh because after my grandmother's sister found out I was an atheist, she tricked me into going to a Mormon Gathering at the Mormon Church. She promised me a steak dinner, but all I got was an hour of my life taken away.

Also, when I've been dragged along to a church service, I lose my mind, which happened that night. I begin to fantasize about standing up during the service and claiming that their god is speaking through me. That, or I get a persistent fit of giggles. Or my inner thespian wants to come out and give the performance of a lifetime, where I cry and fall down and say things like, "JESUS!!! HE JUST TOUCHED MY SOUL, EVERYONE!!!" And then that fantasy takes on lives of its own... I either tell everyone that they have it all wrong and I'll straighten them out or some other variation where I enslave everyone. * evil smile * Yeah... I hate it when my family tries to save my soul.

Actually, that's the one thing I really dislike about the Catholic mass. The fact that they seem so robotic and everything seems to have been drilled into their brains. It's like they aren't even thinking about what they're saying..it's just sort of coming out.

Nah, that isn't what it is supposed to be. To understand what is happening is part of the ceremony. Someone not trained would see it like that I guess, I never thought about it like that.

Good thing then you didn't major in English Lit then. They seem to be pretty big on symbolism, to the point of annoyance even.

It would depend on the context. If I was visiting my best friend and she asked us to go to church with her family, I would. I used to do this occasionally with one of my roommates in college. But if someone asked me in Hong Kong, I would decline as we already belong to a church here. My decision would also be based on which church this person belonged to. There are some that I have no desire to attend.
