I haven't taken a bath in a few years...showers only. We need to put in safety bars, then perhaps I'll attempt a bath. I miss having a bath. Even thought of buying a Premier bathtub.

It's usually about 3 or 4 times a week. I prefer baths to showers, but showers are more convenient. I take a bath if I have time to; otherwise I shower.

It really depends. Sometimes several times in a week, sometimes not for several months at a time.

I never take baths because my dang tub is barely big enough to stand in, let alone try and get down into... Hate these modern tiny tubs. When I grew up we had a huge claw foot tub and you could almost swim laps in the thing...

Well, I shower. I love baths but I am learning to slow down so I can be "relaxed" in one without thinking "Oh, I have to do this, I have to do that, so I better take a shower that is quicker!" Such a fast paced world we live in... but, I don't have to live in it. I think I will change my mind about my time.

I have been taking them once a week (with showers in between) because post-dissection classes, it takes a really good soak and scrub to get rid of the smell (and I seem to get ten times smellier than anyone else when I dissect...). But now we're just doing the brain, so it's not a case of getting right in there, so I'll probably be okay with just giving my hands a good scrub.

Jean i cannot begin to imagine nobody who has not taken a bath or used the bathtub for bathing in years , sure i take
my showers but taking a bath is a wonderful thing to be able to do a bubble bath feels great
And i do understand as we get older the safety issues

I take showers every day. I can't remember the last time I took a bath; it's been at least 25 years.

It is because of safety, I don't take one. Several of my friends have told me they take only showers, due to safety issues. When we redo our other bathroom, my husband has mentioned reinforcing the wall to the bathroom where the bathtub is, then we can put in a safety bar. I used to love to take lavendar baths. I've often thought of buying a hot tub, but my husband said no.

A hot tub would be soo cool and neat but your husband is against that idea! oh well a bathtub is just as good
and safety bars are a great idea! as we old folks get older i just might put in safety bars myself in my bathroom
and all because i am on disability myself and have many problems and issues

25 years since taking a bath ????? You got to be joking me John and then of course you being a man i can understand that why you prefer a shower because most men take showers over a bath

Almost never. I might take baths if I had a bathtub that could keep the water a consistent, perfect temperature, and that I could fully immerse myself in, and that I didn't think was always filthy because it never gets used and so mostly serves as a receptacle for cat hair.

Maybe you should stop pulling out the internal organs and rubbing them all over your body.

It's awesome to see you back here. I hope things are going well.

How do you divide your time between teaching and research? During my first degree I had some lecturers who clearly resented being dragged away from their research! Now I have lecturers who resent being dragged away from their patients...

It's a challenge--it's going to be harder this semester, as I'm teaching three classes. (Fortunately one is a repeat from last semester.) I enjoy teaching and doing my own research about equally, at least for now, so I don't mind needing to do both. At least I don't resent one. The problem really is finding the time to do both, especially because I feel the pressure to do my research is greater than the pressure to teach well is, even though I'm not even in a tenure-track position. Various deans and the like have suggested spending the majority of time on research, but I think I probably spend a little more time on teaching than I do on my other work, at least during the semester. I got a lot of my own work done over the winter break, though.

Is there a lot of pressure to publish in order for you to get research grants? I'm assuming you must be pretty dependent on grants if you aren't tenured. I don't know much about academia though and what I do know is based more on the way it works in the sciences. At least teaching skills look great on a CV no matter what career path you take * smile *

MY BATHTUB SUCKS!! I soaked at least once a week but since I no longer have my beatiful bathtub in the new house I do not sit my big ass in some little shallow tank that only gets water up to my sides. Fudge dat, it only annoys me.
As soon as I get a few thousand extra dollars the bathroom I use will get a major overhaul and I will get a bathtub that will not annoy me. The water has to go at least up to my bewbs.

I saw those. I'm confused about how one would get out. The door swings in so do you have to fill and empty the tub while you are sitting in it naked?

There are very few major research grants in the humanities. People sometimes get small ones for summer research projects, but mostly they're meant to cover travel and basic expenses, not pay grad students' salaries or buy fancy equipment. Most faculty in the humanities just have their salaries and aren't expected to bring in additional funding. The real pressure is to publish, publish, publish. Books and refereed journal articles especially. Those are really what tenure depends on at most places, and they're also very helpful in getting tenure-track jobs.

'Never ever ever apart from with salt' is what my girlfriend told me to put. Her husband poured me one last night (with candles and everything * smile * ) because I have a not nice wound I have to bathe. I had it at their house and it wasn't very pleasant. I don't like baths. I have to have one again tonight * frown * `
