| Melf | posted 11-Jan-2009 5:05am No. Just people related to people. |
| gambler | posted 11-Jan-2009 8:43am Yes, two very good friends of mine (They were ushers at my wedding) did time for car theft & Drugs |
| cloudhugger | posted 11-Jan-2009 9:33am No, wait a minute...yes, a second cousin is there. Drugs, probably armed robbery or something. "Drugs got a hold of that boy. His older brother, who is my age, may have had a short stint but he tries hard to be good. He just went through a terrible drug situation a few years ago and his mom, my cousin, is helping him.
I'm sure there are more, but it isn't something family talks about and I don't have that many friends that talk about their children in prison. I hear through the grapevine and I do not pry. |
| Gomezy3k | posted 11-Jan-2009 10:06am Of course, who doesn't? LOL I know or have known quite a few, everything from parking tickets to murder... I have been lucky... I didn't do it! Nobody saw me do it! No one can prove anything! |
| bill | posted 11-Jan-2009 11:22am Probably, but I'm not sure who it is. |
| Enheduanna | posted 11-Jan-2009 11:56am Yes. |
| southernyankee | posted 11-Jan-2009 12:32pm Yes, a few people. |
| llamamama | posted 11-Jan-2009 12:37pm No. But when I was volunteering with Daisy girlscouts (kindergarten)..they were decorating plant pots and were planting something..and the girl said to me, "I'm going to give this to my dad when he gets out of jail." That was a little awkward. I was curious..but clearly that wouldn't have been appropriate to ask. Although, I'll never see her again because she lives on the Peninsula..stiill..Maan. |
| kirst | posted 11-Jan-2009 12:58pm Yes. Why are jail and prison both capitalized? |
| risingroad | posted 11-Jan-2009 12:59pm Yes. One is an old childhood neighbor who didn't have a chance considering his family environment. So sad. He still is in denial that he needs help or that he did anything wrong. Another is in for murder... part-time nice man who use to bring tires to me to stack for growing potatoes but when he drank he became dangerously violent. Also, a bad upbringing. I don't have contact with either. Maybe it's poverty, lack of education, etc ., which was the case in both inmates. Can we blame it on our childhood(s)? I don't know ... except I don't see supported with healthy upbringing kids hitting the cells. Except when they are arrested for standing up for something they believe in and the government cracks down on them. Or maybe I'm naive. |
| longhaultrucker | posted 11-Jan-2009 1:51pm Iv'e had friends get arrested |
| Cain | posted 11-Jan-2009 3:01pm Yeah. He's a good lad but he did something really stupid. He was in prison for a few years, and whilst he absolutely deserved to be there, nothing is going to override the guilt he still feels every day. |
| Joanne | posted 11-Jan-2009 5:25pm Neither family members nor friends, but I do know people who have been in jail. Remember, I came of age in the early 70's. It was easy to go to jail back then for virtually nothing. Holding an opinion, holding a joint, holding a flower, having long hair, having sex. Things have SO changed. And they haven't. |
| Joanne | (reply to kirst) posted 11-Jan-2009 5:29pm Respect for the law? Then I looked to see who created the survey and her answer, so it isn't that ! lol |
| Matty | posted 11-Jan-2009 6:20pm yup, my brother got nailed for providing coke and a hooker to one of his clients. However, his jail sentence was suspended and he is now studying to be a PA. |

| LJD | posted 12-Jan-2009 7:56pm I forgot, when my husband, years ago received a DUI, and had to spend a few weekends in jail. |
| Iseult | posted 13-Jan-2009 11:40am I don't think so.
What's the difference between jail and prison? |
| LindaH | posted 14-Jan-2009 7:58pm Many people. |
| docgbrown | posted 15-Jan-2009 2:01am Too many |
| they | posted 18-Jan-2009 1:15pm A very close friend is in prison for the rest of his life almost. I do not associate with him anymore because I don't trust his mental health... and I believe if anyone could escape prison, it would be him.
I know many people who have been in jail or prison. |
| Biggles | posted 20-Jan-2009 11:06am I'm not aware that anyone I'm currently in regular contact with has been in prison (and none of my fellow medics would be on the course if they had) but people I was at school with were in prison (though I have not seen them since). |
| Amanda | posted 13-Mar-2009 12:19am Yes. I've been in jail. My fiance's in prison now. I also know quite a few others who are currently locked up or have been in the past.
In the U.S. 1 in 31 people are in jail or prison or on probation or parole. In this country, it's hard NOT to know someone that's been through the "system". |
