What are your general thoughts about movies based on video games?

Something else to say... depends on the game. A movie about Donkey Kong (where Mario Brothers started out)? Bad idea. Action type games like Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat would have potential to be pretty good (if they weren't made yet). A game like Doom that has basically no plot except to go around spewing blood and guts everywhere would be harder to make into a decent movie.

Saying they show a lack of imagination would be like saying adaptations of books or films or operas based on like Jerry Springer shows a lack of imagination. I think movies based on games may be destined to fail because the whole point of a game is that you're in control. I dunno, you'd need a really good premise.

I don't play video games. I saw Tomb Raider and thought it was ok, though.

Something else: I didn't know some of these movies based on video games. Weren't some of these video games based on comic books ?

Some of them haven't been terrible.. but, most have. Sadly, I've seen most of them... which probably shows why they get made.

I am excited about some of them.

Some are great, some are good and some are awful. It all depends on a number of things really.

Apathy mostly. I did like the first Tomb Raider film though. And the Resdient Evil trilogy wasn't too bad.

I don't know. If I amnot familiar wiht the game, it doesn't make the movie any different.

Since it falls in the category of adapted from other source material, it needs to be captivating. I doubt it would motivate me to play the video game.

Well, the only movies of this genre I liked were the Tomb Raider movies. Actually, the first one I liked best. What can trump Angelina Jolie in a wet T-shirt? Unless of course, it is Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas making love...
