Let's see, what did I watch as a kid? There was ALF, Moonlighting, Twin Peaks, reruns of the old Star Trek, old Battlestar Galactica, and old Batman, the 80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, Star Trek The Next Generation...

Yeah, until I moved to Colorado that was pretty much it.

"Topper." It was a comedy, in B&W. This was the only TV show I watched regularly as I didn't much like TV as a kid or teenager, much as I don't like it now. I do remember occasionally watching the original TV version of Superman though.

I liked My Three Sons. My parents had Lawrence Welk on every week. I never cared for Milton Berle or Burns and Allen. Always watched Ozzie, Father Knows Best, Donna Reed, Beaver and Ed Sullivan.

Cerealkiller, you named some of my favorites. I watched all the ones you named, enjoyed them all. My parents, too, watched Lawrence Welk every week.

They have nothing, today, on TV, that even comes near the ones we've mentioned. The shows of years ago, had substance, and class!

I wish you, and your family a wonderful Christmas holiday.

LJD
(reply to cerealkiller) posted 15-Dec-2008 6:26pm
Thank you Cerealkiller.

I rarely watch TV anymore, other than the Monk, or Psyche consistently, when in season. My husband primarily watches westerns on demand, and the sport channel.

To me most TV programs have no substance, are violent, have a political agenda. When I watch TV, I want to be entertained, not have some political agenda crammed down my throat. I wish, through a miracle, wholesome TV could be brought back, but as you, and I know, there's a snowball's chance in hell, would the media ever give us good TV again.

I don't watch the news, the media is so biased. During election time, I would not watch, because they're all liars.

I'm sorry I sometimes feel so helpless knowing the junk, they call news and entertainment on the air. To think of what the media is putting out there, and the young people are seeing and hearing it... Scares me. I'm sorry for being a downer today, but I worry for our future generations.

Take care!

Looney Tunes (that covers a lot of cartoons!!), Transformers (the original, not the watered-down version currently on), He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, The Banana Splits show, The Superfriends... if I had to choose ONE, I'd say the Bugs Bunny Show, because it showed all the Looney Tunes episodes.

Yes, I saw it. The funny thing is - I lived the life of Beaver growing up - no stress, mom was always at home baking cakes and pies, no one ever argued and life was perfect every day. Except I had no older brother like the Beav. I have one sister who is 8 years younger than I am. We got along okay and never fought either.
I think living a Beaver lifestyle as a kid left me totally unprepared to handling adult life, stress, being with people of other races and religions, etc.

Life was very sheltered, ritual which I think led to my having OCD. Neither of my parents ever drove so we never went anywhere, relatives took my mother shopping, my father rode to work in a carpool, no vacations, etc. Every day was the same - father went to work, I went to school, came home, watched Beaver, father came home at 4:50 pm, dinner at 5 pm, father took a shower, then it was tv the rest of the night for everyone. Weekends weren't alot different.

I don't know how you can work the 12 and 16 hour shifts. But, from what I understand, in some fields of work, like the police, hospitals, many work the 12 hour shifts. I can't tell you enough, please take care of yourself, be safe!! We need you!!

Yes, I imagine the crazy drivers get nervous when a CHP is near. My daughter lost two good friends. One died at 2:30am, killed by a speeding drunk driver, going 100 MPH. The boy was 21 years old coming home from a night job. He evidently saw the driver coming from behind, so he thought he'd be safe and move to the side of the freeway....wrong...the drunk driver followed him, hit him on the side of the freeway. Her other friend was killed by another irresponsible driver, head on. Her friend was only 22 years old. I understand most drinkers, and irresponsible drivers do their damage between 12:30am and 6:00am.....is this so?

Of course, police are up against the criminal element, but I guess a person can adapt, and knowing what you're doing, will make a safer community. I know when I talk to my grandson, he has a sense of community, he has a conscience, wanting a clean, safe, peaceful community for others and himself to live.
