What kind of tree should I plant along my driveway?

My driveway has poplar trees planted along it, but this summer the one at the top of the driveway (the first one you see as you drive in) died. I'm interested in maybe putting something other than poplar in as they die.

Where do you live, and what are the native trees there? I'd advocate planting a native species that you know will grow well there.

Don't know. If it were me (and I had a driveway), I'd plant various dwarf citrus and other small edible-fruit trees along the driveway, like lemon, orange, dwarf peach - but if you live in a cold climate that might not work for you.

Hi! Haven't been around in a while!! I think you should plant a dog berry tree, they are brilliant.. and grow big. We had two growing up in my front lawn, I miss them still.. :) Happy planting- whatever u decide all trees are perfect and I'm sure it will be the right choice!

Apple trees are beautiful and your neighborhood wildlife will enjoy the fruit.

I really like any flowering trees. Dogwood, Cherry, etc.

I also like willows and trees that provide nuts/fruit for birds and squirrels. I've always wanted a buckeye tree.

Planting the tree is imperative. Look for low root growth trees.

Not oaks. They shed lots of big leaves, and the acorns are really hard to rake up.

Like I said in Qual - geographic location and other factors come into play when planting trees. Poplar trees are horrible landscaping trees. They have very invasive roots and will tear up your sidewalks, driveways and even travel under your house foundation.

I agree. I think that poplars are cosidered the grot of trees to have in your yard. We trimmed all of the annoying bottom branches, so the top branches 'blossomed' out, which makes them pretty, but they're still poplars.

And yeah, I should've put that I live in Mid-Atlantic US.

This is a loaded question that being the tree lover that I am I just can't answer without more information. What tree(s) are next to it? Is there a garden nearby? How far is it from the road? What kind of canopy span will it be allowed?
Impossible for me to answer! IMPOSSIBLE I SAY!

Silver birch, eucalyptus or chestnut, depending how much space you have.
