Reply with another question, change the subject, or walk off.

I just change the subject in some way, or make a snarky comment to get out of answering it. Or I answer sarcastically, so that they don't know what my real answer is.

If no-speaka-da-english doesn't work, I go with none-of-your-business, followed by either a freezing stare or a mysterious smile. If it's a question that really does need an answer, though, I just take a deep breath and do it.

I usually try not to lie outright, so I'll often say something sort of vague or indirect that's not a lie but also isn't really the truth. I'm pretty bad at just ignoring the question and/or redirecting in some way. I feel as though I have to respond. I should get over that. Some things are just not anyone else's business and too bad for them if I lie.

Don't remember the last time I did this. Maybe it just hasn't happened in a while. I don't talk to that many people in person.

try to answer the question in a very borin way , so the person who asked the question will give up and leave you alone

When I was a prisoner of war, we didn't have questions. We didn't have natures of questions. We didn't have chairs.

I usually just say, "I don't want to talk about that." However, when that response will make things inconvenient in the long run, I just lie. It's easier.

I answer the question.

I can't think of a single instance where I have evaded questions.

I was up until 3 last night. I don't go to bed early whenever I have to opportunity to buzz myself up with ice cream. But then my dog peed on the floor and almost bit me so I got mad and went to bed.

Avoid giving the real answer.

posted 20-Sep-2008 7:33pm

It depends on who is asking the question. There are some people I can just say that I don't want to answer. If I can't do this I may give a vague answer, or answer truthfully (but hesitantly), or attempt to skirt around the question.

I'm not sure that ever happens, but besides telling the truth, which I think I usually do, if I were to be evasive, I might start off with some long background full of distractions until it triggered a subject change.

Lie or answer very vaguely... or reply with another question...
babb001

sometimes i just say 'i don't want to talk about it' and other times i say 'why do you ask' or 'why do you need to know'.
typically the subject is dropped and all is well.

Other - phase 1 is to smile sweetly and say nothing. If they persist, phase 2 is to ask them why they want to know. If they still persist, phase 3 is simply to say 'I'm not going to tell you'.

Replying with another question like, "what the hell is wrong with you!? how could you ask me that!" yell at them and they back off and even apologize. Works for me everytime. I blast them with guilt and they never ask again.
Or glare at them with the 'how I learned not to asnswer questions I don't want to with a blank and arrogant stare 101' look.
