| Melf | posted 8-Sep-2008 5:52pm This was inspired by this beautiful interview in the Guardian with David Thewlis (Naked has just come out on DVD) about the film and Mike Leigh's techniques. Oh God, it's awesome. He says at one point 'I got dangerously close to Johnny.' Lovely stuff.
I got dangerously close to you. |

| bill | (reply to Matty) posted 9-Sep-2008 8:01am We were clearing some brush in the woods and I was swinging it back and forth somewhat carelessly and she reached down. We had a near miss. She was a little miffed. It wasn't so bad at the time, but afterward I kept thinking about it and what would have happened if I'd hit her with it. The guilt would have screwed me over for years, I'm sure. Anyway, I try to keep that in mind when I'm doing stuff so that I'll be more careful. |

| cloudhugger | (reply to bill) posted 9-Sep-2008 6:14pm When I was about 10, I insisted my mum come watch my golf swing. I proudly and strongly swung the iron back and hit her square in the mouth. She hit the ground hard with muffled screams and blood was everywhere. I cannot begin to realize the trauma it did to me at that moment and for weeks after. Essentially, it was her fault, but being 10. I had that nagging "mom...mom...mom...watch me" until she gave in and came over to me to get me to stop, so I had a lot of guilt for that. |
| bill | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 9-Sep-2008 7:17pm hurting someone else is a traumatic thing... it being your mother could only make it worse |

I'm not planning on leaving the US anymore either: I've spent plenty of time oversees in other countries. A lot of people in this country have no idea at all how good we have it here in America compared to a lot of other countries. |
