One was founded by Martin Luther, who lived a long time ago and I don't remember much about because he wasn't as interesting as St. Thomas Aquinas, and the other wasn't. |

The Baptists love to dunk their members in a bathtub and play dunkin donuts and they are Protestants and followers are
commanded by Jesus to be baptized while the Lutheran Church is teachings of the 16th century and i really do not know a whole lot about the Baptists or the Lutheran Churches. |

Actually, I don't really care. I only know how I'm not Catholic, and that's good enough for me.
I'm not Lutheran or Baptist.. |

No except it seems that Baptists are a lot more strict and more conservative-rights. |

Lutherans drink a lot more alcohol than Baptists. At least officially. |

Yes. Jessica doesn't like Baptist Christians as much as Lutheran Christians. |

Honestly, one difference I know for sure is Lutherans are closer to true Christians and Baptists stole the name. |

No I guess not because they love to dunk you under is why i do not like them in a way and in the Episcopal Church if you were baptized say as a child then there is no need to get baptized ever ever again even if you just turned 60 , You do not
need to be baptized again and why i disagree with them Cloudy ? It just never makes any sense to me for a person to get baptized 100 times in their life and why why and they do it to make themselves feel good . But i do like the Lutheran Churches and they are alright but not my kind like forget it . |

Lutherans seperated from the Church with the fundamental belief that asking forgiveness need not be followed up with good acts in order to make it into Heaven. Whereas the concept of pennance for the Catholic faiths means trying to "right the wrong" through specific actions. If you steal gum, then bring back the monetary value to the store...that kind of thing. Other than that, Lutheranism is not much different than the Roman Church or the Russian and Greek orthodoxies in terms of the basic beliefs.
Baptists are more like "free-lance" Christians; they tend to shun labels and attend services which most directly mirror their vision of the Bible. Baptists are quite similar with "Born Again" Christians, except Baptists have differing factions with rather different beliefs. There are factions of Baptists called Fundamentalist and Primitive Baptists. The latter 2 sects of Baptists are unframiliar to me. |

Absolutely not. |

No. Which is kind of sad, as I was raised going to a Baptist church. |

As a Baptist, we actually tried attending a Lutheran church (Missouri Synod) for a time, because scripturally they were closer to our beliefs, but found ourselves returning to our Baptist church after less than a year because of the programs the church offered, the welcoming attitude of the people there, and the overall invitation for all to participate in church life to their fullest. |

Sort of... I'm not into this stuff anymore. Lutherans were the original Protestants. Baptists... were not. Lutheranism is common to Europe, while, correct me if I'm wrong, Baptism started in the States. And I heard something about Baptists waiting until they're 18 and then deciding if they want to be baptized, don't know if it's true. |

I was raised a Lutheran Christian. Baptists seem to be much more conservative, restrictive, spend too much time with other church members |
| icurok | | posted 11-Sep-2008 12:39pm |
That's easy. Baptists believe that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your Lord and Master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in all humanity because some rib-woman who live thousands of years ago was convinced by a talking snake to eat fruit from a magic tree.
Lutherans on the other hand believe that rain is God's wee wee. |

Once upon a time I attended a Baptist church, when I found out I had a protestant soul after being raised Catholic. For me, it was mostly a conveniently situated church with terrific people. I guess it could as easily have been a Lutheran congregation, for what I knew of the doctrinal differences. Somewhere I have an idea that Lutherans are more severe and rigid than Baptists. Maybe not, though, I really don't know. I think of myself as a Christ-follower, a Christian, but without a box to put my faith in. |
