Do you know anyone who has an unpredictable temper?

One minute they're fun, the next they're telling you how stupid you are and always have been.

Mainly a few nasty old former supervisors that I'm thankful I don't have to look at and listen to anymore.

I am dealing right now with a person like this. She has not said anything about me, but about other people. This woman is intelligent, but has no people skills. She is extremely volatile. Speaks her mind with no regards for anothers feelings. She is a perfectionist. I care about her, and has at times, she has been "blunt" with me, but I just brush off the behavior, I don't let it get to me. She used to be a college administrator....and she also sees what is happening in our colleges. She's a very talented woman. I know she has health issues, which are part of the reason for her behavior. The rest of the people in my group can't get along with her, I'm trying to be a mediator, trying to smooth things out...but it's not working. I tell the group, to just overlook what she says...the less said the better. But, she's stepped on too many toes, or emotions of others.

I'm like this, but I usually hide or suppress it.

Well you see, this week I kept complaining, not really out loud, about when my brother called me an butt-hole for "no reason." But there could have been a reason. Not a very good one, if you ask me.

My answer would have been my own temper can be unpredictable; I have many peeves. Then, I read the explanation. I don't really think the focus should have been so narrow.

No.
Usually tempers are preceded by triggers. If you learn to recognize the triggers, you can predict what will set people off. The only time temper is unpredictable is in people with mental illnesses, or in a person surrounded by people who don't recognize the triggers.

That does not sound like an unpreditable "temper". That sounds like a serious personality disorder.

Why can't people just be like this without having a disorder?

If there are no external triggers, just uncontrollable mood changes from out of nowhere, something is out of whack. People can be like this and not have a disorder if there's something that triggered the bad mood.

I don't think so. I know some people who can be offended fairly easily, but they don't have tempers.

yes - I had a co-worker like this for over 3 years that thought the entire world was out to get HIM. I chose to change my way of thinking about him, as a study in personal growth for me....rather than taking anything he said seriously or personally (since he did this to everyone). I learned alot about patience and dealing with difficult people just through knowing this man. I believe everyone that crosses your path is for a reason. Its up to you to find the lesson in everyday things.
