Yes. Usually it's just facial expressions and vocal intonations. Sometimes it's gestures. It's a non-deliberate thing, and I catch myself doing this a lot. I noticed that it tends to be very animated people, and people I get along with and relate to. |

Awesome survey. I like this topic. I did one sort of like this a long time ago. |

I think everybody does, that is how we learn to express ourselves, by emulation. |

Yes all the time. I don't mean to, but it happens |
bill | | posted 12-Aug-2008 7:50am |
I do this a lot, both consciously and subconsciously (without being aware of it). I'm like a sponge that absorbs, then imitates. |

All the time. I am very susceptible to this, although I think I do it less as I get older. |

Yes, I mirror people's body language all the time (subconsciously).
It can sometime's get embarassing.
I have started to pick up a bit of a Forfar twang after living here for almost 2 years now. It's not the most pleasant accent in the world... |
cerealkiller | | posted 13-Aug-2008 6:44pm |
I have this habit of talking like the person who is talking to me, the tone, words, accent, etc. |

I just noticed I've started saying 'billions' like the Doctor; all emphasis on the 'B', with a very slight 'm' sound in front of it. It's like mBillions.
Edit: He said it again. I'm still trying to figure it out - it's not exactly an 'm'; the air sort of comes from when you say something beginning with 'm' but comes out as a 'b'. It's in the bottom row of teeth instead a pop between the lips. Also, you don't make your mouth as wide in the 'illions'. Eh. |

My son used to say 'I don't know' a lot. I never expected to pick up that one, but after his death I seem to be using it a lot.
The last one I picked up was 'Alas' from Dumbledore. |

Depends... I did pick up a Southern Accent when I lived in Georgia for a couple of years... Still say Ya'll... Most things people do annoys the heck out of me so I do not mimic them... |
| llamamama | | posted 6-Sep-2008 12:05pm |
Yes, and I'm willing to bet everyone does. I've started saying ''just throwing it out there'' because a friend does. That's the only example that comes to mind right away. |
| Shrike |
I tend to make mild changes to my accent and expressions based on the vernacular. |
Melf |
Ok, now I'm starting to sound a little like Mark Kermode. Eh. |

Kristal_Rose | | (reply to Gomezy3k) posted 21-Sep-2008 1:25am |
But that makes sense. It's a needed word with no equivalent elsewhere in English. Foreign languages like French have both a singular and plural 'you'. |

I've always gone back and forth on how to say the word "envelope". After years of listening to my customers say the word "envelope", I've decided that I will start pronouncing it "envelope".

Yes. I'm a sponge for language. Which is okay, except when I pick up the bad habits as well. |
