No, driving laws should remain under the discretion of the States |
| llamamama | | posted 5-Aug-2008 12:40pm |
I dunno. You should at least you have to have like a head set thingy.
I hate catching a light twice because some moron is busy talking on the phone to someone they just saw 32 seconds ago. |

As I understand it, studies have shown that whether you use a hands-free device or not makes no difference in safety. I think legislatures that ban one are just showing their ignorance. |

I think it's a good idea. I think we should also mandate using capitals for the first letter of every word in a sentence. |

dunno... seems like we may already have laws that cover bad driving... do we need a law against every thing a driver might do to distract themselves? What about eating cheeseburgers while driving or drinking hot coffee or putting on make-up or flossing or daydreaming... I hear sleep deprivation is probably the biggest cause of accidents... maybe we should just make cars illegal. They are destroying the planet, after all. |

I honestly don't care about what people do in the States, seeing I don't live there. But yes, I think banning cell phones while driving is not such a horrible idea. |
Galomorro |
Yes. They need to keep their minds on their driving. This is a step in the right direction to cut down on accidents. |

When you are trying to talk and drive everything is a blur and real fuzzy like WOW |

Yes. Stupid laws are for stupid people. Smart people will at least have half a chance driving down the road. |
romkey | | posted 7-Aug-2008 12:34am |
I'd prefer they outlaw stupid drivers, but that's not likely to happen or to help. |

LOL!!!!!!! that's funny, ive never heard that excuse in my 4 months of law enforcement yet!! |

next time you pull me over I'll give you that one!!!! Where in California exactly are you located?? |
cerealkiller |
Your question isn't exactly correct. It is not illegal to talk on a cell phone in California as long as you have a hands-free device. But, it is illegal for anyone under 18 to drive and talk on a cell phone, period. |
| JohnCD | | posted 9-Aug-2008 12:10pm |
Eventually every state probably will outlaw cell phone while driving (unless they're hands free) just like every state made it mandatory to wear seatbelts. |

Long Beach, down in southern cal ( Los Angeles) and also the Fresno area, part time |
LindaH | | posted 11-Aug-2008 4:16pm |
If they banned talking on cell phones, even with a hands free device, how would they know? What if someone was using a bluetooth? How could anyone tell whether they were talking on it or not? |

I don't think anyone should drive. I think we should all ride ponies. Then when the ponies grow up into horses, we slaughter them and feed them to poor countries who worship horses and tell them it's cow meat, you know, for the lulz. |

Sure. But we need to include texting. |

It's hard to answer this question, based on what I know. It can be a very important call. OR it can be (like many of them) long enough to put others in danger. I hate "motor mouths". But I have one friend who is ALWAYS busy. And he needs his cell phone with him, at all times. |
