I feel more comfortable with a PC. I know what it has got inside it and it has a nice place in my bedroom. It's more adaptable and generally easier to fix. Laptops flit about. They have stupid mouse pads and the keys are really irritating. The speakers are naff. They break too easily. A laptop is like a cheap prostitute when you could have a perfectly good lover at home. |

I prefer a Macintosh laptop, G-5 to be specific |

I use both... if I had to pick, I think I'd take laptop. I'm pretty sure I could use the laptop as a basestation for a pc-like setup (with keyboard/mouse/monitor). |

Can't you have a PC laptop? Do you mean desktop versus laptop?
I don't have a huge preference. I prefer the laptop for portability, but when I use it at home I have to put it on a raised stand and hook up a keyboard and mouse, because otherwise the angle of looking down at the screen for very long makes my neck hurt, and using the keyboard for too long makes my hands hurt. So for long-term use, I prefer to have something more like a desktop, even if it's still a laptop. But since you can use a laptop for that, and I don't feel the need to have more than one computer, I guess I have a slight preference for the laptop. |

I've never had a laptop, I'm sure they serve a specific purpose for some people. I knew a woman that was a student, and worked, she carried her laptop, and whenever she had a chance, she'd be working on the computer.
Personally, I like the PC. I have a HP Media Center, and love it. I'm green on a computer, but I get by. |

PC. Laptops are cool too I guess..but I'd need to buy a mouse...I can not use that pad thing for anything. Anything I do on a lap top takes me 10 times longer. |

Aaargh. You need to give reasons as to why you want a computer in the first place - since the two different styles suit different purposes. |

Laptop. Can use it from the comfort of my couch - like I am just now. |

Laptop definitely. I wouldn't know what to do with a desktop. I move around a lot. |

Mac desktop. Don't care for laptops. I like a largescreen monitor. I don't have a need to take my computer with me either. |

Isn't a laptop a PC? |

I like a PC. Unless I am in my car or at the park, or at a friends house many miles away from home, or in the backyard or on the front porch...than the laptop will win. |

What?? A laptop is a form of PC. |

Ah, the mythical G5 Powerbook... you must have the one that got out from Apple's research labs! |

Laptops are okay for portability but that's about it. The keyboards suck and are too far away from the edge. |

No, I'm hoping to get one. Oh, yeah, I can see how it read that I already have one, sorry. Chalk that up top Pavlovian salivating. |

No, there's no such thing as a G5 Powerbook... it was a big problem for Apple... Freescale was unable to provide G5 processors that could work in a notebook. Apple switched to Intel chips a couple of years ago... so there will never be a G5 Powerbook... just being Apple fanboy nitpicky (their current notebooks are great machines though) |

By the way, if you can swing qualifying for the educational discount on an Apple computer, you'll save a bit of money on it and they're offering a rebate of up to $199 on an iPod or iPod Touch, up till mid-September. You have to buy them both on the same invoice from an Apple Store or their online store to qualify. You can also get a $99 rebate on certain printers if you buy at the same time... it's a nice deal. |

Wow, I am really behind; I thought Motorolla made apple chips. |

Thanks for the info; I'll check it out. |

Yeah, they stopped making PowerPC machines a couple of years ago... but it's been a good thing... machines are faster now (not cheaper of course) and you can run Windows on them natively if you need to. |
Matty | | (reply to romkey) posted 20-Aug-2008 7:34am |
running windows is a good thing?...I thoutht using MacOS was part of what kept Macs virtually virus-free. Has Mac sacrificed stability for speed and interoperability? |
romkey | | (reply to Matty) posted 20-Aug-2008 8:24am |
No, not at all... you don't have to run Windows... but you can if you want. MacOS is safe from viruses either way. |

Usually my PC, but that's only because my laptop is a cheap piece of crap. You get what you pay for .. but going to an online school requires lots of computer use, and I've found my PC accompanies that nicely. |
