| steve | posted 18-Mar-1998 8:55pm You can require registrants to provide a working email address in order to register. Some people will have multiple email addresses to use, but fewer than the total number of names they can think up. (And I have to say that I continue to dislike comments like "I'm getting sick of constantly filling out just to clear my screen." I mean, nobody's being forced to download this web page, except possibly jen.)***Oh, come on; "download" is not a word? |
| Twanger | posted 19-Mar-1998 12:06am What would be the point? |
| KenShingo | posted 19-Mar-1998 1:14am Bill should also introduce a faster way, like checkbox forms, in order to hide multiple questions at a time instead of clicking links over and over.. it sorta sucks when you leave for 1 week, and find 20+ surveys. |
| bill | posted 19-Mar-1998 8:38am Often people get ideas in batches, I don't want to restrict that. I used to freak out when people post > 5 surveys at a time. Now I think it's fine. I think Survey Central should be able to cope with it, allowing users to manage the influx of new questions without hassle. *** Ken, I do see that as an issue. What I've done recently is to sort not-voted-on surveys by approval rating - thus, you get the best first. I used to do the checkbox thing - but it confused people, CGI is a fairly limiting medium. |
| hunter | posted 19-Mar-1998 11:37am I don't like the idea of limiting by user, since some users never make up questions and others do it all the time and I don't think a quota system would change that. I tend to not write any for a while and then write a bunch when my head's in that space (like once a month I write three). I don't feel as though the volume of surveys is really a problem here or that anyone feels stifled. Do others perceive this as a problem? |
| Atzilut | posted 19-Mar-1998 11:50am if people are abusing the system by submitting 10,000 surveys a day, they should be warned, and then nuked. I liked SC much better when there was a smaller group of people, but I guess the more people, the more useful it is. I have to say, some of the more recent members of OUR LITTLE FAMILY here . . . well, leave something to be desired. |
| Dolemite | posted 19-Mar-1998 2:46pm Eh? Bill, thanks. It seems new surveys will be held in the main menu for longer now. |
| joe | posted 19-Mar-1998 7:40pm as long as the questions are good, the number of surveys isn't a problem |
| booker | posted 20-Mar-1998 12:33am I think some people should be limited, those that create bad surveys (hint hint) |
| elijahblue | posted 20-Mar-1998 1:03am Why? I don't see that many surveys being added these days... As for the second part, I'm not a computer person, so I don't know. But my guess is, if people want to do it, they will find a way. Ken Shingo, why would you want this when you yourself have just added three surveys in a week? |
| Jaime | posted 23-Mar-1998 6:45am Why to limit? I see no reason, and you know, there are many tricks... |
| zoomie | posted 31-Mar-1998 11:49pm It wouldn't affect me, but if there were only a couple of people posting really creative surveys, and their postings were limited, it might not be a good idea. |
| Resy | posted 6-Apr-1998 7:07pm I like answering ... haven't thought of any to ask, but this is just my first time here! |

| daver | posted 14-May-1998 2:22pm I would object. If someone is being a continual schmuck, bill can just nuke his account. (It's bill's sandbox, after all) |
| phi | posted 17-Jun-1998 11:54pm Clever agent filtering to limit how many surveys from a given person you saw would be fine, though, so long as it could be disabled if I wanted to see them all. |
| gilly | posted 14-Aug-1998 4:54pm If you don't like a survey, hide it! Why limit them? I'm stuck in a boring job right now, have completed over 200 surveys in the last week, and want as many new ones as possible. |
| Biggles | posted 9-Aug-2006 1:03pm You leave for a week and find 20+ surveys...Gosh, this really was back in the day! I guess no-one was quite as addicted back then as we all are now |
