At first it's the best, but it will quickly turn bad. |

More bad possibilities i tend to think of |

I think innocent, but I always keep in mind the worst case scenario to protect myself from further incidents. |

The worst. Then I'm never surprised. |

I'm pretty much a pessimist and I usually expect the worst. That way if the worst comes, I'm ready and if the best comes, I'm thrilled! |

Even in today's world, where the worst of people are coming out, I like to think basically most people are good. |
LindaH | | posted 3-Aug-2008 11:02am |
I think of the best scenario. I think more people are good than bad, so it is more likely an innocent thing happening than a bad thing. |
Lahdee | | posted 3-Aug-2008 11:19am |
I think the best at first, then analyze the situation, usually still giving the benefit of the doubt. Why think badly of people if you could very well be wrong? I think that's sort of crappy. Non peaceful and sort of uncivilized... in a way. kwim? |

Bad ones more but am constantly telling myself to think more positively. |

It really depends on a lot of variables and what overall feel they're giving me. |

Pessimism all the way - and it's not born out of innate negativity or anything like that - it just means that should the worst happen, I won't be surprised and I'll already have planned for it. And I'm wrong, and all is well, I get a pleasant surprise! |

Do you think there's a free-floating sense of worry on the part of society, that makes people reluctant to do innocent but "iffy looking" things because "someone might think the worst"?
Do you think it is rude to do things that might arouse that kind of concern?

I always like to find out any risks before moving forward with something. |

I'm going to think the best. I'll probably keep thinking the best even when it's clear that it's bad. |

I'm always on the positive side. |

I am initially inclined to think someone is lying, so I question all the "facts" in any scenario described to me. Hence, if a sketchy situation is described to me, I generally kill the messenger. People who know me say this is a very annoying part of my personna. |

It varies; it really depends on the situation and the mental state I'm in going into it. |

It's natural for a person to think negatively. Positive thinking takes effort. Too much, for myself. But I'm learning to think of neutral possibilities. It's much easier--and much more realistic--to not expect anything. And if I am going to expect anything, it's going to be the least interesting (which is generally neither good nor bad) outcome. |
LindaH | | (reply to meowry) posted 11-Oct-2008 12:08pm |
I think it is because of fear. Thinking negatively is an emotional response, thinking positively is a cognitive one. Emotions outrun logic when people are fearful. I think people need to stop being so fearful and mistrusting. |
