I first arrange by type: fiction, non-fiction, and academic/text book. Once they are categorized, I alphabetize them by title. |

No order at all. |

On my bookcase, it's pretty random - but it's roughly that the best are on the top, and the poetry on the bottom. I really need to sort it out, it looks pretty mental. These are the books I've to read this summer:
And I still have a couple more to get. |
Frostbrand | | posted 22-Jul-2008 1:35pm |
None of those. I have four seperate sets of shelves.
Books I have read
Books I haven't read yet
Books I'm planning to read very soon
Book series (Harry Potter, New Frontier, Alex Cross, Dark Tower, etc.) where the copies are of different formats (Mass Market Paperback, Trade Paperback, Hardcover). Por ejemplo, my copy of The Dark Tower series; books 1-3 I have in MMP, 4 & 6 in TPB, and 5 & 7 in HC.
Also, because some of the shelves are of the wire-box-cube variety, I also organize by weight. The heavy books (hardcovers, omnibus printings) go on the bottom, TPBs on the second shelf up, and the the top two racks are all Mass Market Paperbacks.
The exceptions being the Series shelves and the "next up" shelf. |

I don't. They are in my bookcase..stacked...I don't have the patience to organize them more than that. |

I put them in alphabetical order by author |
Enheduanna | | posted 22-Jul-2008 4:09pm |
The shelves are arranged according to very general subjects (fiction, Hebrew Bible, Akkadian, gender, etc.) and within subjects books are arranged alphabetically by author's last name. |
moviesnob | | posted 22-Jul-2008 4:24pm |
Well, I had them arranged by size. But I really hated that my different geners (for me are: TV books, film books, screenplays/scripts, fiction, and other stuff) were spread out all over, so now they're in subject then alphabetical by title. And now my shelves look really bad b/c all these weirdly sized books are sometimes vertical and sometimes horizontal.
Balls. |

I arrange my books by size.
I arrange my books by subject.
I arrange my books by author.
In this order.
First, all the big books go together... These just happen to be mostly non-fiction books, which I arrange by subject. The large fiction hardbacks go together. I keep series together (Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, etc.) I then arrange by author. A lot of my paperbacks are multiples from a favorite author and those are grouped together too. |

I arrange my books by subject
I arrange my books by size
I stack them rather than stand them up in a bookcase (I do that instead of book ends.)

| Gomezy3k | | posted 27-Jul-2008 2:23pm |
Well I try to keep them by subject but unfortunately have so many that they are stacked so not in any order... I need lots more book cases...
I have 3 huge book cases full of Role Playing Books and still have to stack some... Then I have 2 wide and tall book cases filled with other books and others stacked by them since I have no room... I lost a lot of books when I got divorced... Had about 10 book cases full...now just trying to rebuild by library... |
