I don't watch USA network, but I love House. I watch it on Fox, though. Of the rest of these shows, I've only seen a couple of episodes of Monk, which I didn't especially care for. I've never watched the rest of these shows.

The only one i've seen is House - which I do quite enjoy. Hugh Laurie has come a long way.

Its was OK to start with............But the constant demeaning of patients & staff and the insults is getting kind of old now....

I don't like what's on or the effects of television. So much of what's on glorifies the love of money and possessions, moral relativity, sex without consequence, and otherwise all the things the Bible says to avoid. I find myself irked by what I see, and I definitely don't want Cynthia to be enamored of those values. I simply don't kin to the idea that exposure to things has no effect on those exposed; frankly, most of the time that just seems like an excuse to be a crapty parent or to not want to control one's baser instincts. In short, I guess I am trying to live and raise my daughter as Catholic/Christian as I can.

Also, when I was a kid, I went outside and played; today's kids seem pretty sedentary to me. Plus, I like to remain active. I also found that when I had television, I really had to work-out very hard to stay in shape. My present work-out is about half of what it was when we had TV in the house.

I don't really watch the USA network. Sometimes I'll catch movies on it, but that's about it.

I remember USA UP All Night. They'd run older 80's movies, and it'd be on late at night, and they'd have two scantily clad women talk about the movies during commercials. And when they'd say "USA UP All Night," it was in a really high-pitched voice that hit on the "UP."

I want to shoot our TV. I hate it. I don't watch it, and I find it extremely irritating. I threw a TV off a balcony once. The sound just does my head in. I have to listen to headphones really loud to drown out the TV chatter.

Thanks for the reply

How about just cutting off the signal? *wink* There will be a small adjustment period, a couple of months, but it sounds like you'd be happier in the end.

Maybe that's true, but I had the Atari 2600, and I would have played it all day long if I could have. Now I don't think either one of our theories hold water; I think parenting styles are different. Perhaps TV is the new age babysitter.

I do have 4 TVs in the house for my PS3 and the occassional movie; we just don't watch broadcast TV anymore, and it has been a huge change for the better.

Would you be interested in trying to not watch TV for a month?

(reply to Matty) posted 22-Jul-2008 9:02am

Its a good question Matty,

There is nothing I have to watch and though I enjoy Law & Order SVU it wouldn't kill me, I actually watch a fair amount of "educational" TV

Like "Discovery" and the science channel "how is it made", NGC is another favorite (national geographic channel) I dont think it would work, My wife sleeps with the TV on it lulls her (I dont need that, I like quiet)
I am going to give it some thought........
