I have head and neck pain a lot, but not back pain or toothaches, so I can't really compare. The headaches aren't usually what I'd call debilitating. If I have to work through them, I can. But sometimes they're bad enough that if I don't have anything to distract me from it, all I can do is take some pills and try to sleep it off. That doesn't happen all that often, though. |

Headache. Migraine specifically. Cannot sleep, eat, drink water without wanting to barf, cannot open my eyes and for the love of god please do not ask me any questions because to think would activate the brain making my head hurt worse. 3 days in the dark and calm would be the only thing I could do so I wouldn't put a bullet in my head to make the pain and agony stop.
I am very happy I don't get those anymore like that. I still get them but not to that extreme. I cannot funtion above 65% now, but at least I can funtion.
I have had back aches, more like spasms that rendered me helpless. One single move, even to twitch my pinky would send me screaming (which made it hurt more) because the spasms were like being in the clenched teeth of an angry giant dragon.
I am not being a drama queen here. I have a pretty good tolerance of pain, I have been in pain over half of my life form sports activitys, or very strenous hard work, and I always come around, but these gripping pain moments of extreme agony are a sign of my strong will to survive.
So because it is a single pick, I am going with headache because I have had a few more of those than the back ache. I have had back pain to the nth degree where I could still go to work or do my chores. |

I went extreme with the answer I gave because of the 'debilitating' part of the question. Those examples were debilitating. |

Headaches make it hard to concentrate, but are usually easily fixed with paracetemol.
Backache can be really debilitating, but can usually be managed with cocodomol.
I have yet to find anything which helps with toothache, which is the most horrible pain of the three. |

back pain, not back ache! last year i was laid up for about a week where all i could do was go to the bathroom and that took 20-30 minutes to get there. i was the worst pain i have ever had. it took 4 weeks of PT to get back to myself! |

Backache... but my reason isn't what you mean, I think.
I've experienced severe lower back pain from kidney stones and cramps during menstruation as well as during at least one miscarriage. Also, I have had some surgery where they entered my body through my back... |

There are a lot of dentists who would be pissed out at me for recommending this... because I hear that a lot of it can cause tooth decay... but
If you can stand the horrible taste for a few moments, biting down on an aspirin and letting it dissolve on the tooth actually works if you have no other options. I would personally, take vicodin until I could get to the dentist. Luckily, my teeth are pretty healthy. |

It occured to me earlier that I've never actually had toothache - the pain I had was when my wisdom teeth were coming through and my gums were infected on both sides. So it was more gum ache! But if I ever do get toothache, I'll remember your advice! |

For me, it is knee and leg pain followed by back pain... Periods of "ache" with a lot of severe pain here... I have almost no knee cartilage in my left knee and also have nerve damage so I am in extreme pain if I walk or stand for any length of time, and my back hurts if I sit or lay down, so I am pretty much screwed and in pain most of the time.... |

I had such a backache that it would make it extremely hard to even go to the bathroom. I would just lie on my bed whole day and hope for it to go away. I've had bad tootaches and headaches, but nothing compared to what I went through when I hurt my back last January. So I'm going to say backache, but I'm sure headaches can be horrible. |
