I like both... I tend to use Other out of old habits is all. |

Or both, depending on the survey.
If I actually HAVE something else to say, than that is the better option. But sometimes when the options of a survey don't suit my opinion, but I can't be bothered to share my opinion, or it's not at all interesting, Other is the better option. |

If you think about it other referce to another choise not mention while i.h.s.e.t.s means that you want to say something that is not nessecearly related. Note that this does not always apply. |

Thinking about it that way, that makes the IHSETS option more appealing.
I want a grilled cheese sandwich.
See? |

I think that it might depend ......on what I have to say…or not.

Oh brother. Where's the 'something to say' option again?
I don't see much point in 'Something else to say' options. If that's the case, just say it. 'Other' should be around when the primary options don't apply. It often seems to be the case that alternative possibilities exist which the author hadn't considered, like when an author asks if you enjoy your feet, and you don't have any.
This is one of those surveys I probably wouldn't have bothered with if the subject matter were evident from the title question. I took a chance because it got a good vote. |

I prefer neither; I stick these comments as part of my surveys because so many people choose to answer out of the confines of the questions. It's part of what makes this fun, but it can also be annoying when you're really interested in getting some kind of statistical guage to a question. |
Kristal_Rose | | (reply to Matty) posted 17-Jul-2008 9:03am |
The sample size is too small and the demographic too slanted for much of that, at least in things like socio-political matters. That we even hang out at a survey site separates us from rice farmers or octogenarians. This place is better for 'true of everyone' sort of questions, like 'do your soap bars dry out.' |
Matty |
What are you saying exactly?..that this is not a site for scientiifc sampling. Don't you think that's tautological?
My point was that sometimes I prefer not to see 20 out of 30 responses for "other." Sometimes I would like to compare what shakes out here versus my gut reaction. |

As do I at times. Hey, possible survey, 'do you hope to learn anything meaningful from survey results?' |

How did you know I have no feet? I never mention it. How did you know? |

I like it! It is both a question as well as a statement with an activity thrown in for good measure. |
