I'll likely die widowed, and never remarry.

The odds are against it. I am 54 and single, while I am looking for a life’s mate I just seem to be off track, I have a total image of what I want or expect from a soul mate, but I am sorry I must be looking for love in all the wrong places. I met a lot of really nice and sincere woman but I must be very narrow-minded, I just can’t get on the same page with them.

Yes, happy or not. I'm a married type of woman, I need a man in my life. Without a man to love, or to be loved in return.....a woman is nothing.

So if you came to California (or Mass.) and got married, then when you got back home it would not be recognized legally? That's a big letdown for all those people who come to states where they CAN get married legally, then have to go back home again where it's not recognized.

I married the first time at age 18-1/2 years. I married my present husband in 1961..47 years., I would have stayed with my first husband, if I was mature, and accepted his adultry and abuse,, for the sake of my daughters. I took them out of the frying pan, into the fire, so to speak. I've never forgiven myself for that. Becoming immediately pregnant with my oldest son....this sealed my daughters and my fate. Then getting pregnant again in 1963 with my youngest son....that tipped the scale. I wanted to raise my children, be with them. I always thought things would get better....didn't. I must say through all of this, each and every one of them are good people...with good hearts.

I've never thought about it. It depends on if/when I get married and if/when I die, I guess.

I will die trying or I will succeed and then die married, or not. I am getting the mind set that I may never be married again. The Idea of marriage in the modern concept does not impress me. I want a committed relationship but it won’t need a marriage certificate to seal it. I am disillusioned about the big “M” I mean if I was stranded on an Island with only a native girl, in the legal sense I could not marry, but I still could have the relationship I seek, and the girl not having the concept of modern marriage would not care. I could make a ring from out of a palm leaf and she would be happy. Another point I could make here is…stuck on a deserted island with only her you can damn well bet we would make the relationship work, none of “Oh I need a change in my life!” and then divorce and try again with someone else. That is BS. I sorry I am bitter.

I don't blame you. If I were single, especially older and without kids, I wouldn't want to get married either. Seems people do it just to do it. If you aren't religious and you have your own incomes, no need/reason to marry. If I were widowed or divorced, I wouldn't remarry. I don't see the point.

There's a lot of weird expressions that don't make sense. There's exceptions everywhere. I'm an exception to "birds of a feather flock together". I'll hang out with anyone I like and trust, no matter what flock they are from.

no, it would not be, i live in florida. interestingly, NY is going to afford gay and lesbian couples married legally in mass or california or canada the same legal rights as people married in NY.(http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/29/nyregion/29marri...). no hope of that happening any time soon in florida. my partner and i think frequently about moving back up north to NY or NJ. new jersey has some of the most liberal laws in the country concerning gay and lesbian people.
