I'm most bothered by second-hand tobacco smoke because I walk a lot and every few yards on city sidewalks there's someone out there puffing away and constantly exposing me to unhealthy fumes.

lots of things: not doing enough on one hand, and on the other hand, listening to tree-huggers who want us all to live in survival cabins in Montana. Why can't someone on this issue be reasonable? |

The other night I watched the evening news on TV.
First, they did a report about the north pole and how it's melting much more and much faster this year than it ever has (even more than scientist expected). There's signs that it could even melt entirely in the not so distant future. Then, they had some scientist guy say how this could quite possibly cause a chain reaction where the lack of ice at the pole would cause the entire planet to fail to cool off and thus send global temperatures soaring and unable to cool off again. Coastal regions (where most people live) would flood, crops would fail. Again, more chain reactions with billions of displaced people and global famine.
The news shifted to another story in which people at gas stations were interviewed briefly, all complaining about the price of gasoline. They do that story almost every night now. Also, there have been several stories in which truckers and other people who use a lot of gas are protesting the high prices.
So, we seem to have a dichotomy. On the one hand, we're doomed. On the other, we're all so focused on short-term problems that we don't seem to have any hope of preventing that doom. Even if we were able to change things, it's very likely too late. So, perhaps we're better off not worrying about it, since we're not able to do much to stop it.
On the other hand, maybe the scientist guy is wrong. The Earth certainly seems resilient. Also, what about the coming ice age? Wont we need some sort of global warming to prevent that? |

My father-in-law has bought a little oil conversion kit, so he takes the oil that has been used in our deep fat fryers, processes it, and then he can use it fuel his car (I think he uses approximately one third oil to two thirds diesel). The oil is free, we would have to pay to have it removed anyway, the processing kit was relatively cheap to buy and easy to set up and maintain, my father-in-law has made a considerable saving when you consider the horrendous costs of fuel in Britain, and I presume he has benefiting the environment (in his own small way) by doing this.
The government has decided that he must declare his oil use, and pay a tax on it. That bothers me. |

Most bothered by the drilling into the earth. For coal, for oil, we are slowly hollowing out the planet of it's neccesary insides.
