I don't pay rent or a mortgage. |
jettles |
i picked what was closest to what mine truly is and that is 1/6. i bought awhile ago and got a great deal so i am happy and am able to save a good amount towards my future retirement. i used to live with a real estate person and she always said that they figured that you "could" spend 1/3 of your "gross" income on rent/mortgage etc........ which i thought was highly unreasonable!! but supposedly that is how they calculate what to show you if you are unsure. when i was looking for a house i would not go above what i felt comfortable with and it took a long time for me to find something but it was worth it to me now. GOOD SURVEY! |

If I combine my and Ben's finances, it's just under 1/3.
Buying a house is cheaper than renting around here... At least, it was about 7 years ago.
The house is not a major scary expense at all. I have more problems with the devil, Duke Energy. |

I calculate 1/5 or more exactly 19%. ... hm... maybe it's more, if I count property tax. And, I think I should. So... that's more like 28%. |

About half my income 1/2 goes to rent |

More than half, and I've lived there many years AND am on rent control. |

I can't really calculate this, because I don't know exactly what my SO brings home every month, after taxes, or what he spends every month, and what I earn every month is highly variable. We're not living beyond our means, though. And I am pretty sure that our rent is less than 1/3 of what my SO earns, even after taxes. |

Right now it's 1/5, but I've given notice and I'm going to be shacking up with my girlfriend, so starting next month it will be 1/8. |

I don’t pay rent or mortgage............ The house is owned by my company and its paid for already, however in order to get the deed transferred in my name and my wifes its 7% of the value in tax............ which means I have to find $15,000 from somewhere.................
EDIT: Hello Matty, its good to see you again! |

Tell me what the "funny word is.." so I don't have to pay the mortgage. |

I was thinking about you today...
My friend at work grew up in Jamaica and her mom just went down there to bury her grandmother... Her mom brought her Jamaican passport down with her, but never got an American one... even though she is now an American citizen. So now she's stuck in Jamaica. I was thinking if her mom ended up stuck down there, like Tom Hanks in the movie Terminal... maybe she could visit you
My friend said people wipe their butts with banana leaves down there if there's no paper at hand, was she pulling my leg?

Maybe, once the business starts generating some more money... |
gambler | | (reply to they) posted 4-Jul-2008 8:46am |
..so she is having her green card fedexed/DHL'd down to her right?
My friend said people wipe their butts with banana leaves down there if there's no paper at hand, was she pulling my leg?......... Well..... Maybe Hobos/homeless if your out in the deep country and need to go, but as a rule, No she is pulling your leg, However we are still a 3rd world country in many ways, I just read an article in the paper where a community in Clarendon (a rural parish) were rejoicing as they just got Electricity!!!! which kinda surprised me, the school children were doing homework by kerosene lamps and candles!!!!!!!
Regards David

Well, they took her green card when she became an American citizen.... so she does have some citizen paperwork (up here) and an Ohio Driver's License (down there with her).... They aren't sure what they have to do yet. My friend is supposed to call Homeland security (I think) on Monday.
I believe she grew up very poor, I'm not sure if it was rural. She talks about wooden outhouses and said that when she was little, she remembers seeing hobos pooping out in the open. It all started because I was telling her Biggles' story about Indians wiping their butts with their bare hands/water.... She wants to send them some banana leaves... |

I'm currently living with my parents so I'm not paying rent. When I was working, I was paying just over a quarter of my wage in rent (but with bills included, it was more than a third). When I move in a couple of months time, I anticipate that I will be paying about 85% of my income on rent alone and about 100% of my income with the bills included. Thank goodness I saved a bit when I was working full-time or I would have to go without food for the next four years! |

I pay more than 1/4 of my income, but less than 1/3. My rent also includes all my utilities, so I have a pretty good deal.
In one month I spend $485 on rent, $20 on my phone, about $120 on groceries, and $300-$500 on my credit card. I invest $300 in money market funds, and still have about $300 to stick in the bank. |

More than enough, that's for sure!

57.6% of my net income which is why I'm letting the bank have it back. $440k mortgage and today it is worth $200k. Already rented my son's house for less than half my current mortgage. About a third of the way moved in. Hard part it's so dang hot right now to do anything. 104 degrees yesterday and tomorrow it's gonna be 109. No major hurry though since it takes 5 months for the bank to throw you out. |

That really fudging sucks; good luck. |

Because my flat is tied in with my business. it's hard to say - my income changes from month to month. |
moviesnob | | posted 25-Jul-2008 4:08pm |
My rent is exactly 33% of my net income (I just calculated it). That's just rent, and does not include utilities. My utilities are killing me at the moment - electrical prices are high and since it's so damn hot, the air is on all the time. |

I don't know, I work, I pay bills...I share a home with my SO. It is actually her house and her bills, I just do what I can to save her money. I buy groceries and I feed her, other wise she would be eating out all the time, so I figure I am saving her hundreds of dollars a month just by that alone. I fix things, and I did most of the moving from my house to her house one carload at a time. I mow the lawn and do whatever I can to save her money. I started out paying money to cover utilities, but if I am hauling the wood down the stairs at winter time and keeping the fire burner lit, it saves many dollars in heating costs, I figure that is my share. We haven't discussed this, she has never asked me for money and often gives me money for basics, but I sometimes turn it down.
It sometimes feels like I am hired help, but that's my problem. |
