Don't know about the highest price...I don't think there is that much variation in price here in Hong Kong. There also are not that many gas stations. You also didn't specify what type of gasline. Regular unleaded is approximately HK$16.50 per litre which works out to about US$ 8.50 per gallon. In the 12 years that I've lived here, gas has always been pricey...Maybe the cheapest it's been (if I'm remembering correctly) is about US$ 6.50 per gallon. The government has lowered the duty on gas, though. The duty used to be over 100% of the price...now it's a lot lower.

The highest is a little over $5/gal, for diesel or the highest octane at expensive places. The more normal prices are hovering between $4.65 and $4.85.

I dunno - I rarely see posted signs since I have no car, don't watch TV news, and only read a local paper a few times a week. There are very few service stations nearby and when I am near one I ignore it becuz I don't like looking at 'em.

I just think the next president is going to make some pretty stupid mistakes.. Though Bush did lower the bar considerably.... Besides isn't Barrack Christian??

I really don't see what difference a politician's religion makes, as long as they aren't making policies based on their religion, who cares?

In an ideal world, you would be 100% right. The problem is we are not in an ideal world. So, I'll try and summarize the concerns I both hear about and feel over the Muslim faith.

A significant portion of the world Muslim community declared war on the US in 2001. That wasn't a metaphorical or other such symbolic declaration; it was a real one, complete with edicts and writs, etc. The methodology or tactics of that war is entirely clandestine, utilizing sleeper cells and the like. All of this means our declared enemy is not readily identifiable in any way. So then, how do we defend ourselves against such an enemy...by investigating little-old-Polish ladies from Brooklyn? No, we have to assume all Muslims who fit the profile of a likely combatant are our enemies unless we can verify otherwise. Because make no mistake, that nice Muslim family down the street could be planning to kill you while you get on the train tomorrow. Is this just? Is this how we want to conduct ourselves as Americans? Of course not, it's horrible. It defies every humane instinct we have.
But what else can we do?

So, when you say Obama is the best candidate (and he is); it shouldn't matter. You are right. But people, like me, who want to vote for him are going to be apprehensive until something other than publicity devices and government reports verify who he really is.

We don't have to assume "all" of any given group is anything.
Should we investigate little old Muslim ladies? There's no reason to lump them all together. That nice Christian family down the street could be planning something. Or those quiet people who keep to themselves and always have the curtains closed could be psychopathic nutjobs.

You know what? I don't want to play word games, and I really don't like this topic. You may not believe it, however, this is just as bothersome to me as it is to you. It violates the very core of who I am in the same way it does for you. But, frankly, you just don't get it, either. We do have to profile the most likely enemies, and that does mean young Muslim men coming to our country.
