My fav kind of art is psychedelic art, especially psychedelic-type videos -- colorful, trippy, trance-inducing. I like op-art artists like Victor Vasarely too. Currently searching for an interactive psychedelic computer art program like one I used to play with years ago called "Rainbox." I recently found this again but it doesn't work on my current Mac. I also appreciate any kind of colorful, realistic paintings that depict urban hills -- as in small residences stacked up close together on steep hills -- like of San Francisco, Italian hilltowns, Rio favelas, Greek mountain towns with their white staircases... etc. I don't like standard art museums -- too stuffy, and all that wasted open space bugs me. I like art displayed outdoors at street fairs or outdoor art shows more. |

I love messy art. I love drawings, paintings, etchings, etc. that look messy and yet are very detailed. Paul Calle is probably my favorite artist. He does a lot of portraiture in pencil, absolutely amazing. You gotta look at his older stuff from the 60's and 70's. I don't like his newer stuff as much. I also love any form of art that causes one to stop and ponder over its meaning. |

I haven't got one, but through process of elimination it would probably be painting. |

Northern Renaissance.
But really, I appreciate most kind of art, even if I dislike it.

I lack the words to describe it. I'm not even sure if it's an official category. It's usually odd and colorful though dark with misshapen anthropomorphized characters (e.g. doll heads or animal-like creatures). Usually, there's some sort of fantastic aspect to it. Usually, a dark or sinister overtone to the whole scene as well. It's probably surreal, though I'm not exactly clear on what that means. I suspect surreal is a broader category that contains things I don't like as well as things I do like. It's general recently made stuff (last 20-30 years), though not "modern" or "post-modern" as I understand these terms have specific meanings and in general I find that I don't like modern art very much, though I may like post-modern art (I'm not sure).
I also like some computer-generated art. Either ray-traced images or Mandelbrot set images.
I like some older art, though it's a bit spotty and hard to put my finger on any category. |

Drawings. I love Joseph Beuys' drawings. Also, Cy Twombly's work, which is mostly drawn. Usually, the paintings I'm the most drawn to have a drawing-type a feel to them. Isabel Bishop is one who produces work like that.
One of my favorite painters, though, is Russell Chatham. And his paintings are paintings. Although his mark making is part of what I respond to, which is also a drawing-type element. Mostly I respond to his palette. And his composition, also a drawing element.
It's been a long time since I've visited any of this stuff. |

I love landscaping. I'm thinking of adding a 'tall' garden to my yard. Nothing but very tall flowers. I like little kids would love it. |

I am not sure I know the distinction between pornography and art. The female form fascinates me; I cannot get enough of it. While I know what hard porn is, differentiating between porn and art is a subjective opinion. Lude and lascivious behavior is probably the factor that separates the two, again that is subjective to the observer. |
kcthedog | | (reply to Crayons) posted 16-Jun-2008 11:22pm |
Art is such a personal observation that it is not quantifiable, one mans porn’s is another mans art. I believe that the observer holds the responsibility to whether an image of a nude or an image of extreme violence has a negative quality or not. An observer, if he can remain objective can choose what he appreciates and what he find disdainful. I think that it takes a dirty mind to find an image of a nude to be dirty. |
