  Would you lie under oath?

An oath (from Anglo-Saxon āð, also called plight) is either a promise or a statement of fact calling upon something or someone that the oath maker considers sacred, usually a god, as a witness to the binding nature of the promise or the truth of the statement of fact. To swear is to take an oath.

If you swear on the Bible or other holy book, you are sworn. If you choose otherwise, you are affirmed.

This is not a grey area. You must answer yes or no.
There is no 'other'

No, but it's not a definitive no. Generally not.

I'd like to think I would, given the right circumstances, but it'd be quite difficult.

No, I don't like lying at all. I also wouldn't swear on the Bible.

Yes. If I'm going to lie, I'm going to lie and that's it. But if I'm in court, I'd probably be too scared to act believably.

I would not casually lie under oath. However, I can imagine several situations where I might.

Honestly, yes, I can imagine there might be situations in which I would. In general, though, I probably wouldn't.

Well probably would if forced to, but would prefer to say answer NO when sworn in... Unfortunately, I am not sure what would happen if you said No... Don't think they allow you to in court without being punished for it...

In general, no. However, there are 2 people I would lie for under oath if I knew that it would protect them.

So, would you affirm?

*grin* yes.

But I can think of reasons why I might lie.

I'm not only anti-bible... I'm also anti-government.

depends on the circumstances...if I believed the process was a witch hunt, bullcrap, or an attempt to railroad someone...yes! AND I HAVE! In the military, they were trying to hang responsibility for something on a guy I KNEW had no responsibility in what happened...and my testimony kept him from being railroaded. The ONLY thing I have ANY regret for is that I knew who WAS responsible and HE never had to answer for it....I have seen that man a few times since and he can't even look me in the eye!
