| LindaH | posted 31-May-2008 4:23pm I've never read it, but seeing as the effects of witchcraft are totally fictional, and that witchcraft itself doesn't work and so therefore is absolutely harmless, then I see nothing wrong with kids reading about it. |
| Melf | posted 31-May-2008 4:42pm Nah. The series has a few of the 'good' Christian themes. |
| ausfox | posted 31-May-2008 6:09pm No, I think they are excellent books for children/young adults. |
| bill | posted 31-May-2008 7:14pm never read it |
| Galomorro | posted 31-May-2008 9:22pm I don't think it is bad... ridiculous to think so. |
| kirst | posted 31-May-2008 9:28pm I love Harry Potter. I think Claire would enjoy the first book in the series (she's 8) but I don't think she's ready yet to read some of the later books. |
| Frostbrand | posted 31-May-2008 9:28pm The question's explanation is rather leading. The three-headed dog story predates Christianity by quite a bit (a couple of milennia being quite a bit). And "witchcraft" is a loaded term too. It refers to the religion of Wicca (which I was a practioner of before becoming an atheist). What Harry and his friends do is part of a fictional system of powers called "magic." Magic is common in fiction, and is a supernatural counterpart to the powers derived from genetics or "radioactive spiders" or even technology (the X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc.) |
| Pomeranian | posted 1-Jun-2008 3:27am What a hilarious question. |
| they | posted 1-Jun-2008 7:17am This is definitely a book children should be reading. |
| Iseult | posted 1-Jun-2008 11:07am I would encourage kids to read in any case. And yes, I personally adore HP series and think they are great. There is nothing Satanic about them. |
| Crayons | posted 1-Jun-2008 1:50pm No, I think it's a great series for kids and since the books are so long it encourages reading. |
| cloudhugger | posted 1-Jun-2008 5:03pm Going with the reduculous statement. Heartily. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 1-Jun-2008 7:46pm I think it is ok for children to see Harry Potter and nothing wrong with this in my opinion |
| jettles | posted 1-Jun-2008 11:53pm i think we should demand that ALL children read the ENTIRE harry potter series!!! |
| judgescratch | posted 2-Jun-2008 3:50pm I've never read it so I'm not quite sure.

| Psychologo | posted 2-Jun-2008 11:00pm NO Harry Potter is not offensive and it should not be remove from libarys because some pussys are doging about it. |
| Zang | posted 3-Jun-2008 1:04pm I haven't read any of the books, but I've heard my sister-in-law reading a chapter to my nieces and nephew years ago. I've got a vague idea what it is about.
I don't have a problem with parents choosing to keep their children from reading any book that they deem inappropriate. I do have a problem with people who might attempt to do this for other people. |
| Cleo | posted 13-Jun-2008 12:58pm I've never read the book only seen the movies.
BUT the fact that children even read at all is a good thing! As long as it isn't porn it's a good thing. |
| kcthedog | posted 15-Jun-2008 1:34am Haven't read any of the Potter books, me thinks me should. |
| aquawolfy | (reply to kcthedog) posted 21-Jun-2008 6:17pm yes KC, me thinks you should too. Here I'll let you borrow one........
