Depends on the blog. A lot of them are based on facts, news stories, politics, etc, but have their own opinion added to it.
Some are just random thoughts. A mix of fact and opinion. |

I'd say more fact than fiction, at least in my experience. My own is an infoblog with historical facts, personal experience and opinions mixed together. |

Probably more of somebody's opinion on how they see it in a blog |
Melf | | posted 29-May-2008 5:33am |
They are a mix of the two. If you want facts, you can't just depend on a blog. |

Subjective opinion is neither fact nor fiction. A personal blog a usually a collection of the author's random thoughts about and/or experiences of a particular subject.
Random Acts of Reality is an example of a blog which is an account of the experiences of the author. It's safe to assume that all of it is true from his perspective. |

That would depend upon the blog and its author(s). And a writer's opinion can still contain valuable information. |

I think it's hard to characterize blogs, since it's really just whatever someone decides to write. Mostly, it's opinion, from what I've seen. |

Don't know, that is why I wrote the survey... |
cloudhugger | | (reply to romkey) posted 29-May-2008 10:04am |
Not to be cheeky- but how would you know if the info is valuable unless you believe it first?? |
Iseult | | posted 29-May-2008 3:58pm |
I don't read blogs. |

I take issue with the way in which you have framed the question. Blogs often contain both opinion and fact, but I am not as convinced of the difference between the two as you seem to be. Likewise, opinions may offer very valuable information; the two are certainly not mutually exclusive categories. |

Rarely does anyone's other than my own opinion matter to me, but I don't blog it down for everyone to ponder. If I was to research for information, I would rather find facts, not some weed smoking never left mom's basement ideas about how nuclear plants can better dispose of waste.* But I was wondering since I have only read a few blogs, if that was primarily what blogs are...virtual diarys more of less.^
*I mean no disrespect to weed smoking never left mom's basement idea makers
^I laughed at the face you made when you said "I take issue..." |

First of all, lots of opinions are well-thought-out and educated, not just the ill-informed musings of random stoners. I would say that blogs encompass the full range of options where knowledge, research, and facts are concerned. Some are incredibly erudite, while others are completely ignorant. And some people probably disagree about which is which.
Second of all, I think you are mistaken about the purity of the facts you are reading. Nearly every fact-including account includes some opinion, even if that opinion is only found on the level of deciding what facts to include, how to present them, and what significance to ascribe to them. Objectivity is an illusion once you get beyond a simple list of a few names and dates. |

>Some are incredibly erudite, while others are completely ignorant. And some people probably disagree about which is which.
That is kinda my point. How does one know? |
LindaH |
If you disagree with it, it is ignorant. If you agree, then it is not. That's always worked for me. |
Enheduanna |
I think you just have to use your own judgement about what sounds smart to you and what sounds stupid. It's not like everyone agrees on this. For instance, I hear there are people who read Michelle Malkin's blog and think she's brilliant, but I find everything she says completely idiotic. If you think someone sounds smart but you're not sure, then do a little research to check their facts. Once you know they're reliable, then you know. |

OK. So I guess if I was being a hound on some research, than it would or might be worth my while to read blogs. Thanks, that was what the survey was for. |

Somehow yes.. Because usually authors use blogs to tell their feedbacks, even if it was in an indirect way.. |
kcthedog |
Blogs are merely random thoughts about something.
Blogs are blogs! That does not mean they are factual or not. Ideas and thoughts are like conception, realities perceived before actuality! Blogs are part of the soul and are deeply personal, so I would have to say they are more opinion based.

depends. Some people just write facts and stuff others write their opinions. I think most of the time it's opinion though. I mean, how can you completely avoid putting in your opinion? |
