What would you think of someone who is young and healthy enough to work, but chooses to live on savings?

This person is not receiving any government assistance. The house is paid off, the car is paid off, and there's enough money in savings to sustain them. They choose not to do any volunteer work, just spend their days like a retired person, only much younger (in their 30s.)

I think that what they do with their lives is their own business. I also think that if you think that most retired people just sit around doing nothing, you're deluded.

It depends on how they got that money. If they worked hard for it then yeah power to em'. If they just sat on their asses and were given the $$$ then they need to get up and do something. Either way they'll probably get bored.....

More power to them. I would like nothing more right now than to not work. I'm not saying I would or wouldn't volunteer myself but I'm not going to judge whoever these people are.

More power to 'em! I am envious,. Wish I COULD HAVE done that instead of all those horrific jobs and bosses I wasted so much time at, and for so little pay. If this is what they want to do, why should they worry about what other people think?

If it was me, I would get bored, but if they are paying their own way and are happy like that then why not? It's a long way from the life I want, but I'm sure it would appeal to some people.

Lazy comes to mind, if not just plain un-ambitious! I like working, I like creating, I like learning, and I like living. Retirement conjures ideas of being old and worn out, or of being independently wealthy. In the case of the latter I would still work at something to occupy my mind, travel would be good, but just stay home and watch TV would drive me crazy! I have hobbies I intend to do when I do retire, I love Astronomy and I want to build an observatory to house a large telescope I built. Volunteer work might cross my mind but if I really didn’t “have’ to work for money I have too many projects of my own that would occupy my time. When you are in your thirties there is too much vitality left to just watch grass grow.

It's okay to be lazy, so no problem here.

Hell, more power to them I say. If you have enough money to live on, why would you want to work?

No problem, especially if they earned this money.

Other. It's none of my business. I don't care, and I only don't care if they have a future plan that does not include me renting my house for free and paying their fudging gas bill!
