The worst problem with my country is its citizens, who have placed in power an executive branch which has systematically attempted to dismantle the country, either through ignorance or intent, and who (the citizens, that is) seem to place a premium on ignorance and fear. |

The biggest problem we have is a widespread belief that government intervention can make things better. |

My top choices are lack of affordable health care (that means FREE or close to it); high rents; foreclosures of too many homes. |
Enheduanna | | posted 11-May-2008 12:28pm |
Lack of health care, war, crime/violence, poverty, global warming, environmental issues, and substandard schools. That's for the whole world, not just my country. Some of the others are definitely problems, but I would rank these as the most serious. |
JessicaWoman99 | | posted 11-May-2008 1:58pm |
The most serious issues are George Bush and his fantasy war in Iraq , Bush does have something
to prove alright and now Bush he is raising the price of gas for his Bush SUV and the Bush 747
and ol George Bush is pocketing this money in his wallet and saying to hell with America |
ausfox | | posted 11-May-2008 5:02pm |
I would say that environmental issues are the biggest concern in the world today. Then in my country, high rent and house prices is a big deal, as well as high gas prices. |

None of these are really serious... or, I guess what I mean is that I don't want my government trying to "fix" most of these, since I'd worry that they'd just make it worse. But, that's a different question. I'm personally concerned about the environment and the economy. The economy will probably work itself out. Maybe, we'll be forced to adapt (oh no!), but it will be OK. The environment seems more like a hopeless thing that we're only waving our arms over, but not actually doing anything about. Buying hybrid cars and recycling isn't going to solve global warming. We'd need to do something radical, and I just don't think most people are up for that. Our consumer culture is so deeply ingrained. Actually, I think a massive economic crisis may be just the thing, to put an end to consumerism. But, that would probably mean massive suffering too. Maybe we deserve to suffer, though.
Good political leadership is always nice, but most people would not agree on what that is, so...
One of my biggest concerns is that people seem willing to trade freedom for security (a false illusory security with things like bottles of water no longer being allowed). Every year, we move closer to a homogenized, tightly controlled society with citizens unwilling to take responsibility, but instead looking to the big brother government to solve every little problem. |

Yup. America's in a Craphole right now. Way to go George! |

Lack of good political leadership is the most serious problem here. Our freedom of speech is in jeopardy since the killing of Theo van Gogh and the christians coming to power last year.
They forced Ayaan Hirsi Ali out of the country and a cartoonist was arrested and held in prison for 36 hours just this week. They also want to make critizising one's religion illegal.
They're closing down coffee shops (the place where cannabis is sold), mushrooms will be illegal soon and having an abortion will be more difficult.
It's back to the 1950's for The Netherlands. |

The most serious issue facing my country right now..is that we like to complain...alot..But few times, if any, do we actually do anything about it.
*ducks* |

Lack of health care.
There is plenty of health care in this country. Let me repeat..."there is plenty of quality health care in this country!
so not that one. It's the powers that be that do not make them available.
war? I guess..
Crime/violence. I'd say that was in the top few.
Poverty. I'd say that was in the top few.
Home foreclosures? I would bet on that being temporary. And there is more to that than we know.
Lack of good political leadership
I'd say that's a winner, but I didn't vote for him. I didn't vote for most of them...hmmmm...I don't know anyone who voted for him and no one likes him....again, there is more to this than we know. It's the game without all the players.
Hey, who really is running this planet? It isn't the people. |

It touches on many subjects. It starts off by trying to show how Christian religion is not unique, but many of the elements are also present in other religions/mythologies. It talks about 9/11, the union between US, Canada, and Mexico, and many other conspiratorial themes. It's interesting. |

How well-supported is that idea? I once met a guy who believed in an amalgamation of most major religions - he'd read each of the Holy Books and found things like the flood and that popped up everywhere. It sounds kind of interesting. |
Iseult | | (reply to Melf) posted 21-May-2008 12:22pm |
Well... it certainly is not up to academic standards or anything. And I've already learnt about many similarities that most examples they've shown were sort of review to me, but if I watched that movie with no prior knowledge, I'd be very suspicious.
At many parts, they quote Bible and use it to support some evidence, which I completely disliked because Bible wasn't written in English, so you can't use one of many English translations to support anything. |

Wouldn't members of a particular religion be the least likely to criticize it? Why would anyone make it illegal to criticize one's own religion and not anyone else? |
Melf | | (reply to Iseult) posted 22-May-2008 2:39pm |
That's true enough. I can't see myself watching the film. I'll just head over to Wikipedia |

I meant criticizing a religion. People are extremely sensitive here these days. |
RGirl | | posted 26-May-2008 12:19pm |
All of the above except high rents, youth gangs, immigration, terrorism. They may be concerns but not as serious as the others. Didn't mention lack of quality and affordable education. Mentioned schools being substandard but nothing about the cost of college. |
