I think some of the events recorded in the Bible actually happened, although they probably differed in some details from the biblical account. As a percentage of total biblical events, though, I would put the number of things that actually happened pretty low, and mostly in historical books like I-II Kings or Ezra-Nehemiah. Some of the (past or current) events that the prophets referred to probably happened as well.

It's quite clear that they're not all true.

I'd say none are true.

Um. A few may have basis in fact, but I have no idea which, if any. The chronology of the New Testament is all kifted and stuff, innit?

I don't believe in a God and I don't think ANY of the Bible stories are TOTALLY true. Many may have elements of truth in them but humans have changed things around to suit themselves throughout the ages so I am skeptical about stuff like this. I don't know any Bible stories -- not fully, just bits and pieces.

I could go a little overboard here but I will control myself. I think that the “stories” have a basis in reality, but do I believe them literally, I don’t think so. Let us use Noah’s Arc for example, archeologists around the world have found evidence that an event having to do with a flood or super tsunami did take place, and could this be the basis of such a story, I think so.

A lot of it.

The bible was first assembled from amongst 1000's of manuscripts by Emperor Constantine, a guy who had his wife boiled alive.

The old stories were passed on orally with plenty of chances for exaggeration.

All of it was told from personal perspectives which didn't necessarily capture the significant content of events.

But yes, I do at least believe in many of the supernatural events, and that their is a rough correspondence to actual history.

For the most part unfortunately, I feel any message worth conveying was mostly lost though.

I think that there are probably elements of historical truth in the Bible, as much as in other biased, frequently rewritten and translated contemporary pieces of literature (which to be fair, seems to form the bulk of our historical knowledge of many periods).

I don't think so. I mean human beings wrote that, many more than one, I wouldn't trust them at all.

I think there may be some historical truths in it but for the most part the bible is mythology.

This is how I believe it; I believe that the events in the bible are exaggerated..but happened..if that makes sense. So they didn't happen exactly as they are written, but in some form..they happened.

I'm sure a few of them happened..... it's like if I wrote a book, I'd take a few stories out of my own life to use.

Also, I don't believe in God.. but I'm not sure what that has to do with this survey.

A few are true, as it was a historic document, sort of. There's so much stuff in the Bible that some of it has to be true. Right?

Well you can't take EVERYTHING in the Bible literally. If you really pay attention, a lot of it is symbolic. You just have to .learn to understand it.

That reminds me of a line I composed earlier tonight, Because I believe God is infinite, I can't believe in a single universal truth.

Of course not. It's riddled with contradictions and historical inaccuracies for a start. A good thing, really - if the biblical god was real, he'd be a pretty unpleasant character - 2 Kings 2:23-25.
