I'm sick of saying Bless You. It's an old superstition and it's outdated. Gesundheit is just weird. I've never even heard it here. So I've decided to say "You sneezed' just to acknowledge the fact that this terrible thing has happened. |

I either don't say anything, or I offer them a tissue. I never saw any point in "gesundheit" or "bless you". They have always sounded like pointless, robotic reactionary sayings, to me. |

I usually don't say anything. I just never got started saying fake stuff like "Bless you." |

"Bless you". Unless it's a nasty disgusting person who doesn't cover and sneezes all over the place (fairly common here in Hong Kong, land of SARS) and then I think and/or say "Ewwww". |

'Bleshoo' if I'm lazy, 'bless you' if I'm polite. |

Do you clink wine glasses when the wine's been poured? |
Irene007 | | posted 20-Apr-2008 8:36am |
Bless you but sometimes (depending on the sneeze, it might be; "OMG! You scared me!) |

Not unless someone makes a toast or something. |

Bless you, if I'm being polite. Ewww fudge!, if it's one of those loud disgusting sneezes that sprays all over the damn place. Nasty. |

Nothing. |

That comes from the days of one would taste the guest's/host's wine in front of them to prove it had no poison in it, and is reduced now to clinking. Why do that anymore? |

I don't know. I think people should step back and examine customs and norms. If they don't have a real good reason, ditch them. |

I say Gesundheit when I'm with someone in person.
When I'm working and dealing with a sneezing customer, I say nothing. Half of them may not understand Gesundheit... and I refuse to Bless them... What am I? a freaking priest? No. |

By the way... i think Gesundheit may be spelled wrong....... I'm not certain though. |

First I wait for the next sneeze. Than when I am confident there are no more, and I am the only one there, I say bless you. Sometimes I laugh. It seems the silence after a sneeze is awkward. Someone has to say something. poor thing sneezing like that.
At home, it's pretty automatic. At home it does seem mean not to say anything. A bless you, maybe an 'are you alright?' like if there are many, just something other than silence.
maybe I will try app;auding or whistleing just for fun. |

The basic 'bless you' or 'gesundheit'. I don't always say something just to those that say it to me. |

I say bless you but why we say anything in the first place now a days confusses me, saying bless you or God bless you was importanat back when it was though to be a curse of illness put on you by some one so they said bless you trying to help break the curse, today we know we sneeze because mucaus in our noise has collected bactiria and other harmfull micros that it must get rid of in the form of a sneeze, not only that but we have medison if you do get sick. Still I say bless you. |
