When you read a survey question, do you assume the creator of the question is refering to themselves?

For instance, the question is about a troubled teen and parent, a pregnant girlfriend, or a frisky neighbor, do you assume the creator is asking for personal information because the problem belongs to them?

VotesAnswer

No. I make up scenarios all the time. I don't usually associate them with the person who wrote the survey, I'm inclined to think that people are just being creative, giving people something to ponder.

I see who wrote it. It's not something I think about, to be honest.

I just answer it, if it's rather specific like "If you were dating someone and they looked through your text messages on your phone that wasn't really yours but it looked exactly like the one your uncle had because it was a 2 for 1 deal so you must have switched at the Christmas party because you were drunk and you didn't realize there was so much alcohol in your eggnog and all of a sudden your girlfriend sees all the messages from various hookers and you learn that day that your uncle isn't who you thought he was and now your girlfriend left a huge red hand shaped mark on your left cheekbone in her fit of rage but you explained the situation and proved it so she loves you again and she said she was pregnant so you need to take care of the child which you're okay with because you've always wanted one and you wouldn't mind marrying the girl at some point and maybe you'll propose but how do you get the hand shaped red mark from when she slapped you last week to keep from turning into a bruise because it hurt really bad and she's taking karate and when you go out you don't want everyone to know that you had a fight because you were always a perfect couple and your friends would laugh at you and you don't trust them because they grew up with you since 2nd grade when you moved in and they poured chocolate milk from those little cartons over your head and then you were friends so what would you do?" Then it might be a real situation.

Occasionally mine will be totally hypothetical and fictitious. Occasionally.

Sort of; I usually figure it's based on something in their own lives, unless it's explained in a way that makes it clear that it isn't.

I think surveys can tell you a lot about the creator, but not necessarily in a direct way (it's not specifically their life, but just something that they are thinking about). It kind of shows you how they think too.

*check* Sort of, I assume the creator was inspired directly and is needing to prove a point or wants a general conscensus of how everyone else feels about a situation.

I think that that is pretty much the point of createing a survey to acess the validity of an idea or to explore a new idea.

I have written surveys that really have nothing to do with me. I was a bit shocked that people were actually giving me advice about what to do. Making judgements it was my issue when it was something random I pulled out of the news to see a conscensus about what others thought. I thought it was pretty funny and I was making sure it wasn't just me. I find it quite interesting the answers.
