| drdt | posted 27-Oct-1999 12:44pm Of course, one could choose to define 'demon' in any way they like, and claim that that exists or does not exist. |
| romkey | posted 27-Oct-1999 2:40pm evil does not exist |
| bill | posted 27-Oct-1999 3:10pm I was going to mix evil's existence into this survey, but I didn't want to overdue it. |
| miykal | posted 27-Oct-1999 4:28pm There is no Holy nor Evil in reality |
| mandy | posted 27-Oct-1999 7:24pm Good survey. |
| anonymous | posted 27-Oct-1999 11:15pm There is no good. |
| jonathan | posted 28-Oct-1999 1:05am As redefined by humanity over the course of several hundred years, I'd say the capital-D Devil (Satan, Lucifer, Prince of Darkness, etc.) makes for some interesting insights into the human psyche. |
| anonymous | posted 28-Oct-1999 7:17am "There is no good, there is no evil, there is only the flesh" |
| Wicksy | posted 28-Oct-1999 8:03am FLESH....yum yum |
| seven | posted 28-Oct-1999 5:56pm psyche.... yum yum |
| kirst | posted 29-Oct-1999 7:12am I believe evil exists but I don't think it is personified in the devil. |
| magbast | posted 29-Oct-1999 12:52pm don't exist as far as i'm concerned... |
| magbast | posted 29-Oct-1999 12:55pm i believe man is basically good...society or some other external catalyst brings out/makes man evil |
| jzp | posted 30-Oct-1999 11:26am The only demons are maladaptive, callous, damaged, etc people. The devil and a pile of minions is a "useful" tool to absolve one of personal accountability. Feh. |
| mandy | posted 30-Oct-1999 4:21pm Magbast...I disagree...It's in us from birth. Light and dark....We must learn to balance the two....As long as we continue to ignore and dismiss "evil" as a basic part of our natures we will never understand it or be able to control it. Chosen ignorance of our own dark impulses leads to a false sense of purity that no man can live up to. He walks around feeling guilty for thoughts he should not have....for actions he can't control..."Oh crap"...He says..."The devil made me do it".....bull!!!!!!!! ....................................................... From Satan's Letter by Mark Twain Man is a marvelous curiosity. When he is at his very very best he is a sort of low grade nickel-plated angel; at his worst he is unspeakable, unimaginable; and first and last and all the time he is sarcasm. Yet he blindly and in all sincerity calls himself the "noblest work of God." This is the truth I tell you. And this is not a new idea with him, he has talked it through all the ages, and believed it. Believed it, and found nobody among all his race to laugh at it. |
| Maarten | posted 31-Oct-1999 11:22am They don't exist, just like there's no god. At least, that's what I believe. (Boy, am I screwed when I die and there actually *IS* a god!!!) |
| mandy | posted 31-Oct-1999 2:00pm vos...I'll hold your hand, mate. We'll get through it together ;) |
| yorricks | posted 31-Oct-1999 2:31pm Too many adults learn their views of good and evil from the comics. Real villains will not accommodate us and grow snouts. Real evil has no specific address, except mine and yours. --Quean Lutibelle |
| mandy | posted 31-Oct-1999 3:16pm Very nice.. |
| ILJ | posted 9-Nov-1999 11:14am "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." -Verbal Kint, "The Usual Suspects". A great line from a great movie. It's the kind of quote that'll shake you up for a moment, kind of second-guessing the whole idea of the devil. But I have to say no, there's no devil. I don't find devils or demons to be a good metaphor for human evil because they imply an external source. I think we're all perfectly capable of choosing evil without any help from the fire-and-brimstone contingent. |
| magbast | posted 9-Nov-1999 12:37pm ILJ- i loved that movie...i dig kevin spacey |
| Mariah | posted 10-Nov-1999 10:06pm ILJ: That was my favorite line from the movie. It does definitly make you think. |
| supplicant | posted 11-Nov-1999 12:43pm *nod* a great line, it didn't make me think (since I'm an atheist) but I liked it anyway, I put it straight into my quote file after I saw the film. |
| bill | posted 11-Nov-1999 12:49pm Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) said, "The Devil's deepest wile is to persuade us that he does not exist." |
| ILJ | posted 11-Nov-1999 1:34pm bill - Yeah, but that's such a fruity froo-froo way of saying it. ;) That's right, I said "fruity froo-froo," got a problem with that? |
| bill | posted 11-Nov-1999 2:31pm Oh, but my quote was actually translated from the original French... (not that the original French would have been any less fruity froo froo) |
| ILJ | posted 11-Nov-1999 2:40pm bill - In fact, if it was in French it is *by definition* fruity froo froo ;) |
| Fluffball | posted 13-Nov-1999 7:47am I never believed in the Devil until my last relationship. Now I do. I'm not being sarcastic or joking. I was with a person filled with the deepest, darkest evil I have ever known. |
| grmbrand | posted 15-Nov-1999 11:11am The devil is my friend and co-worker, Seann Ives. |
| anonymous | posted 15-Nov-1999 8:48pm I think magbast is possessed by either The Devil or a Demon. This would explain his violent tirades and antisocial commenting behavior lately. Not to mention that green stuff spewing out of his mouth and the whole head spin thing. If he starts to masturbate with a crucifix I'm out of here! |
| Fluffball | posted 15-Nov-1999 9:29pm One guess who THAT anon was. |
| magbast | posted 15-Nov-1999 10:32pm fluffball..it's not wicksy...i can tell by the wording...it's someone with a respectful status on SC that needs to hide behind anon, cuz they don't want to tarnish their 'good' standing... |
| mandy | posted 15-Nov-1999 10:56pm It was me, Fluffball. sorry:( |
| drdt | posted 17-Nov-1999 1:25am TwM: couldn't be, you wouldn't be out of here in that situation. :) |
| Fluffball | posted 17-Nov-1999 7:18am uhoh. Oh well, mandy. I admire you for admitting it. Most probably wouldn't. Sorry I thought it was you, Dicksy.;) |

| magbast | posted 20-Nov-1999 3:06am duh, it was simulated masturbation...i couldn't find my crucifix..sorry |
| Fluffball | posted 20-Nov-1999 7:24am I'm impressed, magbast. You still wack after you spit? |
| mandy | posted 20-Nov-1999 1:42pm I am so lost. One thing I hate about filtering is the one sided conversations I see that make absolutely no sense. |
| magbast | posted 20-Nov-1999 9:46pm when i'm on a roll...what can i say...i'm on a roll |
| Fluffball | posted 20-Nov-1999 9:58pm A wacking roll? Be careful, you could hurt yourself. |
| magbast | posted 20-Nov-1999 10:16pm i'm a wacker from way back ;) |
| Fluffball | posted 21-Nov-1999 7:18am Got it down to an art form, eh?;) |
| magbast | posted 21-Nov-1999 3:36pm i miss a stroke every once again, but not much...i think it's important for man to know his penis well...it helps in the sack...IMHO |
| bill | posted 21-Nov-1999 6:32pm magster, you may be over-sharing. |
| magbast | posted 21-Nov-1999 6:38pm billster, i'm just being over-sarcastic :) |
| Fluffball | posted 21-Nov-1999 7:57pm Well, ya really gotta "hand" it to magbast on this one. ;) |
