| Galomorro | posted 11-Mar-2008 11:59am I have no idea. I never read any books or theories about it. He was just nuts, if I had to say one thing -- but I never heard anything about him thinking he was John himself. |
| LJD | posted 11-Mar-2008 12:58pm Mark Chapman, had, has a mental disorder. He was in his own world of fear I believe. I haven't a clue of exactly why, but I believe some people become obsessed, and do horrible things, and murder. Perhaps he was on some very bad prescribed drugs, Very sad. |

Don't make assumptions whether or not we're qualified to answer your surveys. |
| Biggles | posted 11-Mar-2008 1:50pm I have no idea, and I'm not interested enough in John Lennon to spend any time reading up about him. He wrote and sang some songs...*shrugs* |
| Biggles | posted 11-Mar-2008 1:51pm *wonders why all the bad votes* |
| LindaH | posted 11-Mar-2008 1:59pm I don't know. Reading the link Bill provided, I'd say he was psycho, but his motivation was Lennon saying things about God and the Beatles, and Lennon being "phony" |
| kcthedog | posted 11-Mar-2008 4:54pm Mark David Chapman was diagnosed delusional and possibly psychotic, besides a need to bolster his own sense of self-importance were primary reasons he committed the murder of John Lennon. He IMO chose The Beatles and John Lennon in particular because of their popularity and political profile. In other words he was nuts! |
| Wicksy | posted 11-Mar-2008 6:10pm Because he wanted to be someone and he picked the one person he was secretly envious of.
The fat bastard nearly died of suicide prior to 1980 but a bird flew past the car he was gassing himself in and took it as a message to stop. Fudging bird!! |
| llamamama | posted 11-Mar-2008 7:04pm Wasn't he crazy? I mean, I wouldn't know, I wasn't there..
But he was crazy, right? Why don't we go ask him, I hear he's in prison..Unless of course you admit that he's crazy.. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 11-Mar-2008 7:55pm Because he was crazy and a loony from the mental ward is why he killed John Lennon and he probably heard
voices in his head |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 11-Mar-2008 8:00pm People like Mark David Chapman should not even be walking around on the streets , they are a danger to
the public and to themselves and need to be in a state hospital mental ward |
| they | posted 11-Mar-2008 9:00pm Because he was nuts. Period. |
| docgbrown | posted 14-Mar-2008 1:26am Don't know and don't care. Never liked his music either |
| thecomic22 | posted 15-Mar-2008 4:36pm Um because he was a total nut job? That would be my 1st guess. Could be wrong.... |
| Zang | posted 4-Apr-2008 4:47pm Because he was an unbalanced über-fan who had such a strong need to be closely linked to his hero, that he would assassinate him in order to accomplish this. |
| Zang | (reply to bill) posted 4-Apr-2008 4:57pm > see also: Mark David Chapman
From that article: Chapman was a fan of the Beatles, particularly Lennon In his 2006 parole board hearing, Chapman said "The result would be that I would be famous, the result would be that my life would change and I would receive a tremendous amount of attention, which I did receive... I was in a very confused, dark place. I was looking for reasons to vent all that anger and confusion and low self-esteem." I think that backs up my position... |
| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 4-Apr-2008 7:02pm They are making a movie about it, Chapter 27. The trailer for it looked pretty good. |
| Zang | (reply to bill) posted 4-Apr-2008 7:10pm Doesn't that have something to do with bankruptcy? |
| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 4-Apr-2008 7:51pm I think that's "Chapter 11"... I'm not sure what 27 is... maybe a reference to Catcher in the Rye. |
| Zang | (reply to bill) posted 4-Apr-2008 8:14pm Oh right...chapter 11...gotcha... |
| Enigma | posted 10-Apr-2008 12:35am His mental illness |
