Always, ALWAYS! I may see someone I think I know and I might cross the street to avoid him or her so as not to have to make "small talk." I'm rarely in the mood to talk with anyone, except via email. |

No. I only avoid them if I don't like them, or I find them annoying. |
bill | | posted 12-Jun-2008 12:36pm |
I've done this a couple times. Then, I feel guilty about it. |

Yes I do. |

I always avoid people because I don't feel like pretending everything is just fine and put up with nonsense small talk. |

I am never in the mood to be social so, I dunno. You tell me. |

Just around my apartment. I'm in the mood if I've managed to leave my block already. It's more of a 'properly dressed' thing for me. |

Yes. I have friends I haven't spoken to in months... and they think I don't want to be their friend anymore I'm sure.... but really it's because I just don't fudging feel like being social. |

Yes, absolutely. If they do not see me, I therefore do not exist. |

I live in a medium sized city, and it's very infrequent I'll see someone I know. It also happens to be infrequent that I'm not in a mood to be social. The two occurring together (seeing someone I know and also not in the mood to be social) has actually never happened. It would be an anomoly if it did. |

I think most people at sometime has run into this situation more than once, and yea maybe it’t not a matter of avoiding someone more like I just don’t have the time. |
LindaH | | (reply to kcthedog) posted 15-Jun-2008 12:41am |
That's probably more like it. Being in a hurry is different than not being in the mood to talk. |
kcthedog | | (reply to LindaH) posted 15-Jun-2008 12:45am |
At times it is easy to get caught up in the stress of daily activity, and nowadays it seems everyone is on a schedule and what needs to be done doesn’t fit in the time to do it. Me thinks we should slow down! |
LindaH | | (reply to kcthedog) posted 15-Jun-2008 12:48am |
Taking tedious, stress producing stuff off the to-do list, and putting fun stuff on sure helps. So does mowing someone's lawn and getting paid in beer. |
kcthedog | | (reply to LindaH) posted 15-Jun-2008 12:59am |
Are you drinking now? |
LindaH | | (reply to kcthedog) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:05am |
I was. Now I'm eating popcorn |
kcthedog | | (reply to LindaH) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:09am |
Popcorn will make you thirsty! |
LindaH | | (reply to kcthedog) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:12am |
It has no salt, just unsalted butter |
kcthedog | | (reply to LindaH) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:14am |
So a ice cold beer doesn't sound soo.... refreshing right now? |
LindaH | | (reply to kcthedog) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:15am |
Well, I'm not real thirsty |
kcthedog | | (reply to LindaH) posted 15-Jun-2008 1:23am |

Daily, hourly, every second of the day. I hate being out in public..and I hate talking to people. I have no friends and dang few acquaintances and am fine with it. Wish more people would leave me alone.... |

absolutely!! i go the the hair stylist and sometimes tell him i don't care if he sings, hums, talks but do not ask me any questions or ask me to participate in the conversation. i just want to relax and not engage in small talk. most times at my husband's family gatherings i find there isn't a single interesting conversation going on. they are the most boring people i have ever known. i don't say much at those gatherings. the best conversation takes place on thanksgiving day when all the women sit around the dining room table and go through the huge array of ads for shopping the next day. sad isn't it? here is a sample of a typical conversation: mom: 'joe, remember that boy you went to school with in the fifth grade who used to where plaid shirts and liked oj?' joe: 'no i don't'. mom: 'yes you do. remember his dad drove a red ford?' joe: 'no, can't say that i remember him.' and it goes on and on that way. anyway, that is how a typical family afternoon goes. i hate it. so i avoid even family socialization as much as i can. i am civil, cheerful, laugh if there is something to laugh about, but i would kill myself if i ever had to vacation with these people. ok...went off track a little bit here...thanks for the opportunity to vent. and today, father's day, is going to be ONE OF THOSE DAYS!!! arrrrrghhhhhhh!!! thank goodness they serve booze at these parties. |
