| Melf | posted 1-Mar-2008 2:53pm I don't know, but I'm leaning much more to 'no' than 'yes'. There are always hierarchies in society; whether it be because of wealth, race, sex(uality). |
| LindaH | posted 1-Mar-2008 3:28pm No. You have to discriminate. I can't stand how that word is used by a lot of people, with no qualifying terms in front of it, as though all forms of discrimination are bad. Discrimination based on irrelevant characteristics like race is bad.
We must discriminate against people who are unfit, unqualified, and have bad reputations. If you didn't discriminate, there would be no reason to do background checks. |

| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 1-Mar-2008 3:53pm What rocks? I'm confused. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 1-Mar-2008 4:07pm No it is not possible to have our world and society free from any discrimination |
| Zang | posted 1-Mar-2008 4:35pm Depends what you mean by "discrimination". We discriminate every time we select an item from a menu. |
| dab | posted 1-Mar-2008 4:59pm So long as the society is made up of humans, I doubt it. |
| bill | posted 1-Mar-2008 6:01pm some ideals are still worth striving for even if they are not feasible |
| Galomorro | posted 1-Mar-2008 7:36pm I think so if kids are trained properly at a young age by parents and in school, etc. A lot of times kids get prejudices from other kids and from adults around them and kids are highly impressionable. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 1-Mar-2008 8:59pm Who would be the one(s) to determine who is ept and who is lame? |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 1-Mar-2008 9:07pm The employer offering the job, the landlord offering the apartment, the leader offering a position in the club... |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 1-Mar-2008 9:09pm That would be discrimination. |
| LindaH | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 1-Mar-2008 9:11pm I know. My answer to the survey is that some types of discrimination are okay. |
| babyred07 | posted 1-Mar-2008 10:48pm I think maybe someday, but right now society is to big on appearance. To many people still think what others think of them is important. |
| romkey | posted 2-Mar-2008 8:10am Unless you substantially alter human psychology, no. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to LindaH) posted 2-Mar-2008 9:07am ooooOOOoooh...got it. |
| they | posted 2-Mar-2008 10:45am Nope.
I think too many people want to be discriminated against so they can whine like little doges. Lately, I've been very annoyed by this. It seems like a lot of minorities like to keep pointing out their differences to keep discrimination alive. I think they'd be very bored if there was no discrimation to complain about. People enjoy being victims. It's probably not a very popular view... but whatever. I'm sick of it... and I definitely don't think anyone should be treated BETTER because of their minority status. That pisses me off too. I could go on and on but I will not let this start my day off poorly.... so.... /end rant |
| LindaH | (reply to they) posted 2-Mar-2008 10:59am I could rant about it too. When people engage in poor behavior and are discriminated against for that, there are some minorities who are so 'blinded' by their status and being discriminated against for all the wrong reasons, that they don't see it when it's not their minority status, but their behavior that's the issue. |
| they | (reply to LindaH) posted 2-Mar-2008 11:05am I agree. You said it perfectly.

| southernyankee | posted 2-Mar-2008 10:35pm No. We should strive to come as close to that ideal as possible, but it will never happen. Just as there will always be crime and corruption so long as there are human beings. We just learn to accept and deal some level of tolerance to these things. |
| jettles | posted 3-Mar-2008 9:41am i think you can have a society free or close to free of discriminatory practices in the work place, education etc.... but you will not change people's personal feelings so NO it won't be completely free of discrimination |
| RGirl | posted 3-Mar-2008 2:48pm Absolutely not. The brain just doesn't work that way. You mix up biology with environment with experiences and it is just to complex a combination to get everyone to think the same exact way. |
| cerealkiller | posted 3-Mar-2008 6:48pm No, no way possible. People hate each other. It is a natural occurance. |
| Enheduanna | posted 3-Mar-2008 10:32pm I tend to think of feasible as different from possible. My dictionary says feasible means "possible to do easily or conveniently." So, no. But possible more generally speaking? Maybe. I don't know. |
| LJD | posted 29-Mar-2008 4:35pm Yes, and no. I think you can have a more harmonious society of people of their own kind, however, even in that society, there will be disagreements. In a multicultural, diverse society.....impossible. |
